Need help picking speakers

by HUNTERDEN - 4/26/07 10:41 AM

I want a nice set of 5.1 speakers that sound great and look good. My ball and chain wants a set that looks great and is quite small so as to not standout. The general vibe I get from this forums is it would be a sin to go with Bose. Not sure what direction to go here, should I just get a divorce? I'm looking for speaker suggestions, I want something high quality....

If you definitely want a 5.1 system that doesn't leave a big footprint then go with an Onkyo 5.1 package. The consensus here is that they make the best 5.1 HTIB systems.

I'm sure others here will suggest not getting a 5.1 HTIB set, but buying them individually which although will sound and perform better than a 5.1 HITB system, will cost you more and probably will not fit your wife's "looks" requirements.

If ou are willing to spend 700-1200 dollars on small speakers, check out the Orb sets.

KEF

by Yunks - 4/26/07 3:53 PM In reply to: Need help picking speakers by HUNTERDEN

I Would recommend these, KEF KHT-3005, as the one of the BEST svlbl. 5.1 systems on the market. I have had xperience with these and they are GORGEOUS!!! Another recommendation would also be - an also OUTSTANDING system - B&W MT-30...
Hope this helps

A good choice, but i would get the KEF KHT2005IIMP's instead. the single 10" woofer is way better than the dual firing 8's and the speakers are very similar, not to mention they are $500 less (the ball and chain will really like that). right now we have them paired with an onkyo txsr804 which pushes them nicely.

Thanks for the ideas.

I'll go check out the Kef's, they seem to be right up our alley.

THE KEFs ARE GREAT SPEAKERS, I'M not so sure that.......

THEY FALL INTO YOUR BUDGET! KEF's are inherently pricey. I don't think that KEFs in your price range will sound any better than KLIPSCH brand. KEFs might be "right up your alley" but you're looking up a $3,500 to & $4,000 alley.

I love KEFs, but rarely recommend them on this FORUM because they are
beyond the AFFORDIBITY reach of most; not all, C-NET members and posters.

Best wishes,

River.

$1000 for all the speakers isnt bad. any good system with small speakers will cost at least that or more.

KEF'S KHT2005IIMP

by robdrums69 - 9/21/07 2:05 PM In reply to: Thanks for the ideas. by HUNTERDEN

Hey there.

Not sure if you chose a system yet, but I know a lot about the KEFs and the KHT2005IIMP same as the KHT2005.2 system is unbelieveable. Circuitcity have them right now for $499.00 and they sound amazing.

Better than Bose, trust me...

Rob

Sounds is incredible, go listen to them .. I bought some myself...

Thanks for your entry on the KEF2005

I just bought the speaker system tonight and have not yet opened them. From what I hear, these speakers are great for the price as oppose to the over hyped bose Accousticmass 10. I also have an Onkyo TX -SR804 receiver and am looking forward to see I get the same response you've gotten..
