The only differences are the price and the processor.
I'm a moderate home user with mostly uploading and downloading stuff.
other than text editors i use little bit of photoshop for photography purpose.
is it worth going for core2duo for the price difference

If I were to choose, I would choose the second one. I mean it's only $100 difference. Might as well get a better laptop right?
The reason is simple. You can never upgrade the CPU later.
