I didn't want to use it now...

by OzBo - 1/6/08 2:56 PM In reply to: Bo, I have not followed... by glenn30

Oh, I didn't want to use it now. My computer is fine now! I wouldn't touch anything at the moment.

But two years ago for example my computer crashed, and not even a technician was able to do anything. We couldn't even reformat the HD, so we had to replace it. Maybe, who knows, that utility would have done the trick. I still have the drive somewhere, it would be interesting to see if it can fix it.

Try it once

For the heck of it, you should find that HD and see if that program would do anything with it. Wouldn't hurt since you've already replaced it. Right?
Excuse me. I'm just a try something for the heck of it woman. But, I believe i having a backup in case things backfire it ya know what I mean. Sometimes my husband just looks at me & shakes his head like, "oh brother.....some times I wonder about you". And he's more of an adventurer than I am.

Viruses

by bdomek - 1/8/08 4:59 AM In reply to: HELP!! by jglenn66

You're absolutely right on that count. Viruses can be extremely stubborn to remove, and tricky at that. Been there, done that.

Also, sometimes you need to write down the name of the virus, then go to Windows Explorer & search through all the programs listed to find the virus. That can be very time consuming. But, it has worked for me to avoid having to completely format a hard drive and have the long dreaded task of re-installing everything all over again.

Just a suggestion.

well i say this now I'm only 15 and currently only have a above average knowledge of computers.

If you cant use your or any anti-virus then repairing could've worked but because it you cant then formating may be the only option, and probably the best. If you haven't backed up then forget it now the file s are more then likely infected and backing up just cause to make a copy of the virus. So wait until you can ask a more knowledgeable person before you format.

why

by slam5 - 1/7/08 7:55 PM In reply to: HELP!!!! by OzBo

for my curiosity, why would you not re-format? you know, it is not very likely that you ever be sure there is no virus left on the machine. even if you got rid of all of them, you machine will run SLOW Modern malware sink their claws deep into the operating system and your system probably won't boot if you get rid of them. i suggest you re-format.

pc formatting

by bdomek - 1/12/08 9:43 AM In reply to: pc ..............xxxxxxxxxxxxxx by deft tripper

Question. Why on earth would you recommend Formatting any PC without using the System CD to reinstall everything? The person who formats their PC without a System CD to re-install, is asking for a dead PC. How do I know? I've worked on many PC's. You absolutely need to have a Windowx XP, or whatever the system is. CD. Otherwise, that individual would have to go out and buy a System CD to install into their PC. That also covers laptops for that matter.
