Venus memory card issue

by dknelson99 - 11/27/07 5:37 AM

I have had my Venus for about a week now. I also bought the 8GB card. The phone does recognize the card as being 8GB, Windows XP recognizes the card as 8GB. BUT....if you use the sync feature to upload your music, the card is shown to be 4 GB and you get a "device full" error after uploading about 3.6 GB of music to the phone. LG and/or Verizon have apparently screwed up the format function so that you are NOT allowed to used the full capacity of the card for music.

I heard from another Venus owner who has only a 2 GB chip and he has the same issue. He can only use 1 GB for music.

I tried putting the card in a card reader and was able to upload over 7 GB of music to it but then when I put it back into the phone, it will not initialize and just reboots the phone.

I talked to Verizon tech support and they claimed that it should not be this way and that there must be a problem with the phone. Even though I knew that was not the case, I exchanged the phone last night. New one has the same issue.

I called LG and they also said that it shouldn't be this way and told me to exchange it. How do you get through to these people that it does NOT work as they think it does?

I like the phone but will probably be returning it before the 30 day trial is up due to this issue.

No, it's not the card

It's NOT the card. I've already tried a new one and besides, like I said, it reads fine if you use a card reader and it reads fine if you hit the "memory" button on the phone. Also, other owners are now reporting the same issue. Not just the Venus but the new Voyager also. I was talking to a guy last night at the Verizon store who had a 2 GB card in his. Same situation, when syncing for music, only half the cards capacity is showing.

sd card not working

by kalpauly - 11/29/07 8:08 AM In reply to: No, it's not the card by dknelson99

i have a six gig card. when empty, the venus tells me i have 5.7 gigs available. i filled it up with 2.6 gigs of music, and the phone just reboots. i took it in to two different verizon stores and it did the same thing on every single one of their venuses (plural?). strangely enough, it worked on both voyagers no problem. i had them call corporate, and the solution was to send me a new 4 gig card until they fix the issue. who knows how long that will be. needless to say, i'm pissed off. they can't offer me a different phone because the voyager is too high end but everything else is too low. i doubt the 4 gig card will be any different based on what i've read here. hopefully it is a software issue. i'll keep you posted.

Here is what I got from LG

by dknelson99 - 11/29/07 8:56 AM In reply to: sd card not working by kalpauly

After discussing the card issue with Verizon tech support only for them to tell me OVER AND OVER that I must have a bad card or a bad phone, that I'm the only one who has reported a problem, basically that I don't know what I'm talking about....I finally got THIS response yesterday from LG.

"This is currently a known issue with the LG voyager as well as the LG Venus, we are working hard to come up with a solution for this problem, but as of right now there is no fix. Your e-mail address has been added to a list of customers who have contacted us about this problem, when we find a solution you will be contact via e-mail with the solution."

I have about 3 weeks left on my trial period with this phone. I don't know what I'll do at this point if they don't come up with a fix before then. I'm leaning towards going to AT&T and the IPhone at this point.

I wish that when CNET reviews these things, that they would take it a step further and test functions such as syncing music and etc. to see that it works.

response from lg

that's exactly what verizon told me. i'm going back to the store tonight and demanding a credit towards my account. i know one should not jump on new technology so fast and we might be partly to blame, but i feel they pulled a bait and switch. you can't advertise a feature and then not have that feature work. in fact, to me, this is grounds for terminating without paying an ETF.

what's that number for LG? just the 800 number? i'd also like to get on their list as well as verizon's.

LG 800 number

by dknelson99 - 11/29/07 4:15 PM In reply to: response from lg by kalpauly

LG Electronics USA
800-793-8896
customerservice@lge.com

Just to forewarn you though. I talked to them half a dozen times only to be told by them also that they knew of no problems. I got 2 emails the same day telling me that the problem must be with the chip or with Windows. FINALLY got two more admitting to the problem. I then received another email today again admitting to it.

switch

by kalpauly - 12/5/07 9:34 PM In reply to: LG 800 number by dknelson99

the day i convinced myself to wait for the software update, the phone crapped out and i couldn't hear people who i called. so i took it back and got the blackberry pearl, which was actually fifty bucks cheaper with the mail in rebate. yeah, you gotta pay for the data plan, but this **** rocks. i've downloaded google maps which is better than VZ navigator and free. it reads my 6gig card just fine and there's an awesome third party app called flipside that shows you album covers as you scroll through your music.

i guess what they say is true, once you go black, you never go back. after my last year with the first gen chocolate and now the venus mishap, i'm through with LG. i highly recommend you do the same and get yourself a phone that works like it's supposed to.

later,

kyle

Are you using the Vcast music manager to sync your songs?

I can chime in that I have the same problem

by vichercules - 1/6/08 11:05 AM In reply to: its defintaely the phone by Plesh8

I have been searching this one and it appears that many people have this problem. IT IS NOT THE CARD!!

I will probably switch to the Pearl.

The venus is cool looking and somewhat fun to use, but its syncing capabilities are terrible. The Verizon software sucks is very slow and nosy. I can't figure out what the sounds directory is for and why it is populated with sounds that can NOT be added to the ring tones list blah blah blah.

The phone is going back. Too bad too, it is pretty.
