new notebook..how to get to registry

by rHansen91 - 1/6/08 5:28 AM

I bought a new HP notebook a few months ago....really love the notebook...hate Norton!!! It was already installed when I bought it. Been trying to un-install- have my own anti-virus- but it's not listed in the un-install catagory!!!
How do I get into the registry of this note book? I've tried everything with no success!!!! I want Norton out of my life!!!!!

Help!!!!!!!!!!

Installed? Maybe not. . .

If it is in the Start Menu area, but not in Add/Remove, it is not installed. Clicking one of the menu items will install it. A good test is to go to the Norton/Symantec folder in Explorer. Delete it. If it delets, the program is not installed.

To access the registry, click Start, Run, and type regedit. But try the above first.

Ahhh...Vista

On Vista, one way to get a "Run" line is to click on the Vista start button in the lower left, then type "Run" in the "Search" line, then press "Enter" or click on OK.. A standard "Run" line will then appear and typing "regedit" should still get you the standard registry editor..

In addition, Vista no longer has the old "Add/Remove Programs" icon as a primary icon in the Control Panel.. Instead, open the Control Panel, make sure to choose "Classic View", then click on the Programs (Or Programs and Features) icon, then the Add/Remove Programs, then uninstall Norton as normal..

Once that's done, then use the "Norton Removal Tool" which was posted earlier by JP Bill.

Hope this helps.
