best price cameras.com

by carnut - 3/16/06 4:31 PM

This is a bait and switch outfit. Get you in with low ball price and then, after you have ordered, call you back and want you to buy extras, including the battery for the camcorder. Scam outfit, avoid.

Best Price Cameras

by arstiff - 8/31/06 8:14 PM In reply to: best price cameras.com by carnut

I ordered a Canon digital Rebel XT body online. I received an e-mail telling me to call. I did, and they wanted to sell me a battery and charger at a high price. When I asked why the camera didn't come with a charger, I was told that Canon doesn't package them that way anymore. I was enraged and told them to cancel the order. I notified my credit card company. I sent Best Price an e-mail asking for an acknowledgement of my cancellation within 24 hours. 30 hours later, no e-mail.

Scam artists

BEWARE OF THE RESTOCKING FEE: I think a big way these people make money is by enraging their customers during the process so that they cancel the order AFTER the order is placed, and then they charge you a restocking fee of 15%. I tried to cancel my order of over $3000 when we were getting bad vibes about the whole process, and they told me the order had already shipped and that there would be a 15% restocking fee ($500 for me). I declined, only to find out later that the shipment didn't leave for 2 more days. THEN, they screwed up my zip code by one number and shipped the box to Arkansas instead of California (they also lied directly to me on the phone and told me it was UPS's mistake and that the package was coming directly to me - no problem)! THEN, I get the box after 14 days of shipment (thru Arkansas) and it's missing one of 2 lenses that was supposed to be in the package. I called to complain, and they told me they just got them in and would ship it out right away - no mention of the fact this lens was on backorder when we ordered, nor on the packing slip when it arrived.

I too got hit with the extra fees for battery and charger and I could write a lot more about other issue like false listing of much higher quality lenses in a camera package - only to find out the web site changes over night and they tell you that you read it wrong...but I'm getting too angry!

I can sympathize, but these places find people looking for

by Kiddpeat - 9/20/06 8:46 AM In reply to: Scam artists by jitterboogie

a 'good' deal.

May I suggest Amazon or B&H Photo and Video as places with competitive prices that actually deliver the product they advertise? Their price will, however, be higher than the 'good' deal.

Scam Agreed

Thank you so much for the posts. I placed an order for a Canon Digital Rebel XTI for $579.00 Sounded great. Got a call that my billing addy does not match my shipping addy, I needed to call the CC Company to get an Alternate Address listed. I then got a call from them and they sold me a Battery and charger (Because pro camera's don't come witb Batteries), case, card, warranty and the next thing I knew, the bill was $13xx.xx (can't remember the exact). I tried to call and cancel the order and am getting the runaround. So, I called the CC company and had my card cancelled and reissued (they haven't charged it yet.) Oh well, buyer beware. I appreciate your info. I just hope this helps before someone else tries to buy from them...

FYI they also do business as (not a complete list):
Best Stop Camera
Century 21
Hello Camera
Infiniti Cameras
Infiniti Photo
Infinity Cameras
J&K Cameras, Inc.
Mr. Accessory
Regency Camera
Regency Photo & Video, Inc.

Check out the BBB site at: http://www.bbbnewyork.org/reports/businessreports.aspx?id=12668

PS. I just got an email stating that my order was cancelled without issue (I guess they tried to run the CC first and found it declined.) Again, thanks a lot for the advise.

Best Price / J & K is indeed a scam outfit; I am just here to add one more voice to the chorus...they tried to charge me $4500 for what should have been $3500 worth of equipment. Fortunately I figured it out and this forum warned me off, and my bank has put a hold on my card - it will decline.

Spread the word...

Scam compnay -DO NOT ORDER FROM.... BESTPRICE CAMERA.COM

by Charles Williams - 1/4/08 8:24 PM In reply to: Best Price Cameras by arstiff

Over a week ago I ordered two expensive cameras (2 separate orders) from BestPriceCameras.com online. They appear to have an extensive purchasor review record and what appears to be a legitimate website. However, on their website these reviews state "from satisfied customers only". This is fraud. Neither order was processed despite providing my MasterCard and obtaining two emailed order number confirms. Today, they finally responded to my emailed inquiry by telling me that "the camera" I ordered is "out of stock" and "will ship whenever it arrives". A bald face lie - as I ordered two cameras, not one, and their ads are still running as "instock". This is a Bait and Switch outfit that has no intention of honoring their advertised low price. Nothing more than FRAUD and perhasp also identity theives from NIGERIA!

Bait and switch

by mreding - 9/18/07 10:28 AM In reply to: best price cameras.com by carnut

I agree with the comments on the forum. I ordered two camera kits and the salesperson who called me after the order was placed told me I had to have lenses and converters. I thought that lenses came with the camera, but apparently not. After I canceled the order I got snotty phone calls about the cancellation.

What a scam!

by jrodjerome - 12/3/07 3:49 PM In reply to: Bait and switch by mreding

My wife ordered a camera for less than $400 from bestpricecameras.com. They tried to get her to order a lot of extra stuff, and the salesguy "Sam" was snotty when she wouldn't. She found out the next day when the credit card company called that they had tried to charge her card for $750 and $500. We got it stopped, but when we called Sam back for an explanation, he was very rude and said there was nothing we could do to stop the charges from going through. I got on the phone with him and things got heated. He told me he "could crush me with the push of a button", that he would "send his boys to see me", and that we must not have any money if we were shopping on his site. "Do you really think you can get a good camera for that price? Come on!" he said. He went on to curse me out, saying my wife was probably cheating on me, and that I had no idea who I was messing with. I offered to meet with him face to face so we could "discuss" it further, but he never would give out his address (or his mom's, since he probably lives in her basement at 30.) He told me he had all our info, "so who's got the power here?" We had to cancel our credit card, got nothing but hassled and pissed off, and I didn't even find out where he lives so I could hurt him. That's bestpricecameras.com, folks. Customer service with honesty! He told me his product sucked, he admitted he meant to steal my money, and cursed me out and threatened us. Hey, at least they don't lie. I wouldn't recommend them. If anybody knows this guy, please let me know his address.

Wow...

by ammccreary - 12/3/07 7:44 PM In reply to: What a scam! by jrodjerome

I heard about this operation before. They are on the business side of things (b2b) selling copiers, printers, fax machines, and toner/paper. Ran into a couple of years ago when I had a customer of mine (I was selling office equipment) saying she could get the SAME copier I was selling for 1/3rd the price. Now I knew my copier was a tad inflated, but jeez 1/3rd? She liked me and sent me the competitors quote only to find out that they didn't list ANYthing it came with... She dug a bit further only to be given the run around...she didn't like it and went with me. She said for about 1 month after she signed with me, she kept getting calls from random people at that place wanting "follow-up" and telling her that it wasn't right to allow them to give her their best price only to let me get the sale. They always call on unregistered numbers and send quotes through untrackable emails or fax machines.

This stinks as much as people trying to give away free government grants...over the phone. I find it funnier when none of them can mask their OBVIOUS foreign accent...

THANK you for the whistle blower...all of this time of year need reminding...

Second time this week. Two companies on-line that we thought, wow, good price. Put in the order. Once we talked to someone, they tried to talk us into buying a battery for it. I told them "no". After telling them I wanted to have it delivered over night, I was told it would take four to six weeks because it was coming from China. I told them to cancel it. The individual hung up on me. Unbelievable.

BestPriceCameras Ripoff!!

by cameranovice1 - 1/13/08 8:55 PM In reply to: BestPriceCameras by Kbrown4305

I ordered a Nikon D40x online. I then received a call from a salesman telling me I had to add a lens, battery, charger, filters, etc and to top it off pay a 6% uplift for insurance. He also downgraded me to a D40. I should have not placed my order at that point but did. I waited a very long time to get my camera and finally did. After taking several pictures and wishing I would have gotten the D40x, I tried to download the pics to my PC. I tried to put the software on the computer and it was in Japanese. I called Nikon and after getting my Serial Number they said it was a grey market camera made for Japan and had no warranty. They told me to call Best Price Cameras and let them know it was illegal to sell grey market cameras out of New York and threaten to call the attorney general. I called them and told them I wanted my money back. They said it was all a mistake and they would send the proper software and a warranty card. After much threatening by me they said they would send me another camera made for the United Stated. I let them know they would send my money back and I would send them their camera back. After still more threats and him telling me they could not take back a used camera I finally got him to agree. He said after they got the camera back then he would credit my credit card in 10 to 14 days. I sent it UPS and they got it on the 10th of December. I did not get my money in 14 days. I called and they said it would take 25 days. I called Visa and they acted like they would refund my card after I filled out paper work they would send me in the mail. Today on Jan. 13th I got my money from Best Price Cameras minus $.99. I figure a buck is a pretty cheap lesson. In the mean time I found a good deal at a retailer and got the Nikon D40x with an extra lens for just a little more than I paid Best price Cameras.
