I have never purchased a pda, and am looking to purchase one for school and work. Upon doing research and reading various reviews, I am having a hard time deciding between the Hewlett Packard HP IPAQ 111 Classic Handheld, HP IPAQ hx2495, and Palm TX. Issues with the Palm TX such as screen digitizer resolution and its non-user replaceable battery seems like a small turn off. Which PDA do you think is better?

"screen digitizer resolution" is same as prior Palms so what issue is there?

Over the past few years I've had the Handspring Visor (2MB), Toshiba e310, Palm TX, and now the HP IPAQ 111- so that's 2 Palm OS and 2 Pocket PC. As far as operating systems go, I'm more of a fan of the PPCs.
Now, when I first bought the TX, I liked it, until it started to restart automatically for no apparent reason. This was a pain, especially when I was using the word processor (you have to pay extra to get "extra features" such as spell check) and it didn't save what I was working on. The web browser was not any better- it was very slow to start up and would have a hard time opening quite a few websites. I would often get an error that read something like, "this webpage is too large to open." The last straw was when parts of the screen started to go dead to touch (i.e. you could tap it, write on it, etc, but nothing would happen). Turns out something was wrong with the digitizer, which I had to replace. Now, I don't believe that this flaw was due to misuse. I had a screen protector on the screen and used the hard cover (that came with the device) whenever I was not using the PDA. Additionally, after researching the problem, I've found that many people have had issues with the same problems. (All this within a year.)
Additionally I was pretty disappointed with the Palm OS overall. Many features that you would expect to come with the programs actually cost more. The media player is okay, if you don't use the device for music. Like I mentioned earlier, you have to buy the full version of the word processor to get basic features, like spell check. Also, if you need a VPN to connect to a wireless network, be ready to pay another $30 for some 3rd party software. So at first the TX looks cheap, but what comes with the package isn't too great.
Instead of buying a new digitizer, I bought the IPAQ 111. So far, it has performed well. The processor is great, the web browser works fine, it comes with Office Mobile- which works as it should, and so far, no restarts without me telling it to.
All in all, none of the same problems of the TX, but we'll see.
Hope this helps.
Could you please add back your dialogue of explanation to your YouTube Palm TX digitizer replacement? The sound is gone.
Your presentation would be that much more helpful if you could do this. As I have eyesight problems, I don't want to take any chances in trying to do this myself.
Thanks for your efforts!
