Although this is not a prediction for 2008, I think this will happen in the next two years. The logistics would be similar to current movie downloads on the xbox market place...the movie will expire in 24hrs once you begin to watch it.
The price will be in the area of $39.95-49.95 per movie, which in the right household would be worth the price. By that I mean as an example, a family of three would pay $30.00 for admission then for one popcorn and a drink you would add another $10.00 per person making the average outing $60.00.
The benefits:
1. the ability to pause and play at you leisure to discuss a scene or go to the bathroom;
2. show off you home theatre setup to family and friends;
3. eat your own far less expensive and better tasting food;
4. no more cell phone conversations interrupting your movie watching pleasure;
5. no more fights or yelling matches as a result of someone talking throughout the whole movie;
this is just to name a few. I welcome you opinions on the subject.
I have many other thoughts on this issue but I will discuss in more detail with your comments.

Yea!!!! Now I can watch Alvin and the Chipmunks w/o all the screaming kids.
I'd simply be happy for the theaters to sell the DVD at the concession stand after walking out of the theater and also after having just viewed the film. Even if it were priced at a premium like $25-30, I'd still considering buying it so that I could have it then to watch again that night. That is, versus waiting for it to be released in the stores.
Yet more missed revenue opportunities by Hollywood.
