Suggestions for home theater

by alafreniere - 12/28/07 9:45 AM

Have an older magnavox 42" plasma, its nice its HD but the sound quality is horrible. when playing dvds the music is loud but the dialogue is always low no matter how loud i put the volume up. So, im in the market for home theater/av reciever/speaker combo, 5.1 or 7.1.

thoughts on wireless rear channel speakers etc? thanks in advance and happy holidays.

scour all of your setup menus, and try compressing the audio, both in your sources as well as in the tv. Might be called DRC, or even "late night" mode, etc. No guarantees, you can fiddle around, it might help. However, I am all for getting a good audio system.

the 990 was recently available, only for an extremely short time, for $570. That's a steal. I think its typically at $700 now.

The system will never ever compare to a cherry picked component based system with thousands of dollars invested, of course.

but if I had these two extremely strict limitations, being

-have to have everything right NOW!!
-$700 max budget is absolutely unsurpassable

I'd probably get one too.
