iRiver Clix 2 users, would you recommend the iRiver Clix 2?

by azninvazn - 12/20/07 3:10 PM

hey I'm looking for a new mp3 player, and let me tell you that I am just a high school student who wants to listen to some music on the bus or w/e so I'm not looking for anything complicated like memory expansion, battery life (as long as it's not too short).

So right now I am real close to buying the iRiver Clix 2 (8GB) because of the bright screen, good music quality, the nice looks, etc, but there are two things holding me back.

1) I've seen some people say that the clix2 seems a bit fragile (like the screen and the d-pad buttons I think) and I drop my mp3 players a little bit, so I'm worried.

2) there seems to be A LOT of people criticizing the customer service of iRiver, so if there really is a problem, I don't wanna have to deal with that.

So can anyone tell me whether the above 2 happens a lot or not? Thanks.

PS - If I don't get the Clix 2, I'm thinking about the Cowon iAudio 7, so would that be a good "back-up" so to speak?

clix

I did drop mine twice but it was on carpet and I keep it in an armband case, so I guess I can't really help with that. As far as customer service, yes, it is horrible. The clix is supposed to come with games and mine didn't and mine freezes up often. So I contacted customer service via e-mail and they just give me a link that is in an Asian language that I can't read. They have responded this way several times and now it is too late for me to return this device. Hope that helps.

iriver Clix2

I love my iRiver Clix 2 and haven't had any problems with it. I, too, use the leather case, so any drops I've had have been cushioned.

I've owned four different brands of mp3 players and the tech support from all of them have been pretty bad. I haven't had to deal with iRiver tech support yet, but the documentation for the iRiver Clix 2 is pretty sparse. Most questions I've had have been answered by visting the iRiver user forums.

As much as I love my iRiver, you may want to consider the Cowon iAudio 7. Both players have good reviews, but the iRiver is more expensive and I'm not sure if there is a great enough difference to warrent the cost.
