To faster your "Vista Computer" (damn Vista) you have to diable the "Aero Theme" . It might work but if you want "Aero" beacouse it is prety there is no other solution i think.

Check what is running

I have dealt with several Vista PC's, and have found that they are not generally all that slow. As with any other OS the key is which applications are already running, and how much of the systems resources are being used. The first thing I would try is running "msconfig" and disabling all the programs on the startup tab. Do this while disconnected from any network, because you may be disabling anti-virus and anti-spyware applications and you don't want to allow your computer to be exposed to any malware. If the PC runs better when everything in the startup folder is disabled, then turn the startup programs back on, one at a time to see if you can find the culprit. If the PC does not run better with the startup programs disabled, run "msconfig" again, and make sure that all the disabled programs are still disabled (some malware will reenable itself) anything reenabled should be "googled" to find out what it is, and if it is considered dangerous it should be removed. The next step would be to disable services in "msconfig". On the services tab check the "Hide Microsoft Services" box, and then disable the rest of the services, reboot the PC, and see if the performance is improved. Then disable the MS services one at a time to see if one of them is the culprit. A corrupted program or service can slow the performance considerably. This is the method that I would use to track down poor performance, because with the system specs that you provided, your PC should be relatively fast.

i sure hope this helps out, there is a possibility you may have tried these steps already, any way here goes:
open internet explorer.
go to tools click internet options.
click delete cookies, delete files chk offline content box.
clear history.
click ok.
this should juice up your system. good luck.

uninstall Vesta,reinstall XP.
unfortunately, (for you and many others) Microsoft does not completly debug their software they let the customer find all the bugs and then they offer fixes.At least thats my opinion,and the reason why I bought a Mac.No bugs,no worry about a Virus,just a machine that actually works.

I have Vista and it is slow, had one befor this and it was slow.
enternet explorer did not work half the time did all they said to do still did not get any better. So i went to firefox and it is fast on most things but not on booting up. But geting to the enternet is fast.

Good Day,
in my experiences with Vista! I artificially make this run fast throught Registry Editing! This could help Some part of Windows to run faster such as: Menus, Start Menu, Program Group Menu etc! Here's how:
Step 1: Click Start Button
2: Click RUN menu
3: On the RUN Propertis Dialog Box, Type REGEDIT
4: Click/Expand (+) Control Panel Folder in the Directory Pane
5: Click Desktpo Folder (You Will notice that all its content will be displayed on the right side of the window which we call the "File Pane.)
6: On the File Pane, Double Click the MenuShowDelay
7: Change it's default value to "0" (I mean ZERO) then close all the active windows and just follow instructions. It is very important that you restart the machine to finish the resgistry Edition.
Another thing that you can do is to check your CMOS/BIOS settings e.g. If you are using high speed Memmory Module like DDR 667 etc, it is important that your set it correctly to the CMOS setting as well us the FSB Speed should meet it's requirement to the CMOS.
Yeah! That I think colud solve your speed Vista problem!

Can't remove Advance Registry Cleaner from my hard drive

Have uninstalled and made several attempts to delete, even used a "truly free" registry cleaner. Still can't get this software off my computer. I can delete the shortcut ICON it put on by desktop but it comes back anytime I need to do a reboot. Is there a way to report this company's practices to CNET so they might warn members about the "permanent" nature of the download?

I want to remove everything, but can't figure out how. If it's not a virus threat I guess I could just consider it a nucience, but want to get rid of it just the same.

I ahve been using vista ultimate for over a year and I find it faster than the other system. you might need to cleanyour system. I actually upgrated from wp and have had no real prolems except for drivers and program upgrades which are usually the wants of certaaain programs to ,ake m,oney out of youjr sensibililty. avoid such programs and look for alternatives.

I also got vista ultimate with high cpu and 4gb ram but im not having no problems with slow, i was until i found what my problem was as you might want to try, what antivirus you using as some like using alot of cpu on boot up the ones i found to be very good and not slow down you pc are Kaspersky,Microsoft onecare and Avg the other are very resource hungry and use up all your cpu on boot up which will slow down your pc quite a bit , hope this helps.

Hay buddy,
The best way to fix your slow vista, Is to change the theme of vista.. You could just change the theme to classic. But lest face it, Classic just looks ugly.
The other theme (i use this one) is vista "windows vista basic". It's kind of hidden...
Right click on the desktop, Than go to "properties". Than go to "windows color and appearance"
Now click on "open classic appearance properties"
Now select "windows vista basic"
That should speed things up alot. If vista still is going slow. I would use windows xp. Than when you get a new computer, use vista.

Like you, I'm not impressed with vista. However, one of the things that I found is that all kinds of other programs that don't need to be running are started when you turn your computer on. Hit the control alt del and then start the task manager to see what all is running on your machine. Learn what each of these things does before you mess with it. Each manufacturer puts their garbage here too, so yours is different from mine. I've got two HP's and a Toshiba with Vista on them, but I'm writing this from my 4-year-old Compaq using XP cause I like it better (windows 98 was even better). With some of these entries, you can go to the source program and change preference to stop them from running constantly because they are resource hogs. I also used a program available through CNET called winASO. It's one of those programs that can get a novice user into trouble so I don't suggest it for everyone, but if you check on what you're changing, it does a great job. After you download and install it, go to "advanced tools" and then the tab for "startup manager." Every item listed there is being started when you turn on your computer. They may not still be running, but with Microsoft, anything that once started and ran it's course used RAM and is likely to still be hogging memory. You will probably find a number of update programs on the list that don't need to run all the time. It's best to find the source and change your preferences when you can, instead of disabling them here. Just write down what they are and periodically run them yourself to keep your programs up to date. You can uncheck them on the left and click save. You've had this machine for several months now so don't get in a hurry to do anything. Understand the processes first before you change anything. Be cautious with any advice that you get, and happy surfing.

In regards to your question about your Vista I went thru the same thing when I downloaded a security deal. Vista has a build in security so the only thing you would need extra would be a antiVARIS. sINCE I UNINSTALLED the security package I have my speed back. Try it and see if your speed dont come back. I ask my cable guy and that is what he told me to do. Phyllis
