Hi guys,
I'm currently choosing a player to replace my iRiver H10 and after much research, ive come to this shortlist of players
Cowon iAudio 7
+ excellent battery life
- bulky design
Sony NWZ-A818
+ excellent design and build
- battery life is not as long
iRiver Clix
+excellent player overall
- don't really need a big and good looking screen as i'm only using it to listen to music
i'm leaning on the Sony atm cos it's quite decent for my use and i'm seeking user experience for this player
anyone currently using one? and comments about any of the players are welcomed... they are all quality and i can be persuaded quite easily ![]()
thx in advance
forgot to mention
i'm looking at solid state players only... and something quite compact...
i want 8gbs or more for storage and need a reliable and long lasting battery...
I know you're not interested in a player with a large screen for viewing videos necessarily, but the newest player from Creative is definitely a top contender for best flash-based player. Creative products always have great sound quality, and this one offers up to 30hrs playback time according to Creative and comes in a variety of storage sizes that range from 4 to 32gb(!). If not, though, the Sony looks like a great little player with lots of useful features, and I'm sure it sounds great.
If you wanna go smaller for a Zen try the Zen V Plus it goes up to 16 gigs or an 8200 seriese Sandisk Sansa. The Sony might have propiatary software and formats just a warning and the iRiver Clix seems to not have a single bad thing said about it. So if your gonna stick to the players you mentioned I'd say if the Sony needs propiatary software try it first and if you don't like it go with the iRiver.
Sony has abandoned SonicStage. Their new players can now use Windows Media Player.
no more sonic stage means sony players will be awesome!
yeah i'm quite sold by Sony at the moment
i guess now it's a decision on which sony to get
the A818 or SWF something or rather but can't remember the model number exactly
the newer SOny 8GB player
btw will be really good if Sony users manage to drop in with their comments...
... and I can tell it's quite a nice mp3 player. It's a beautiful player, sturdy looking, with good tactile buttons that are at that sweet spot between "ease of pressing" and "ease of mispressing". It doesn't feel or look cheap at all, easy to handle and very pocketable.
The interface is clean, with big icons, very readable lettering and some smart ways to move through your music/video library, as you can navigate 'em by folder, by artist, by album or by songname. There's album artwork viewing, also.
The screen is a nice 2" 320x240 pixels display, with nice contrast and saturation, crispy clear images. Video playback is very good, with consistent frame-rates and, despite playing only M4V and MPEG-4, it's a very capable video player.
The sound. Ah, the sound. Let me tell you, it sounds awesome. I'm a musician, a bassist, and I'm quite annoyed when I listen to music and the bass is too quiet or muddy. The bass in this player is loud, thumpy and clear. The mids are powerful, without being overpowering or nose-y and the highs are crispy clear. The bundled headphones create a good soundstage, taking the sound "out of your head". They're not as good as the Shures or Etys out there, but they're quite good. The player also has a few internal EQs, two custom presets and some sound enhancing options, none of which I found truly needed to further enhance the sound quality. I just tweaked the EQ to listen some of my tracks (mostly Beatles stuff, which is somewhat TOO bass heavy).
It's a very responsive player, without delays or lags. Been almost two months with it and yet it didn't fail on me once, it didn't crash, freeze, nothing. Perfectly fine. Battery life is astounding. I've used it for 4, 5 days without needing to recharge, and I'm heavy user, sometimes listening to music 8, 10 hours a day. Sony says it has up to 33 hours of battery life and I'm inclined to believe. Recharge is also very fast, and with charges as short as 5 minutes you get a few hours of playback.
It's a nice player and I'd recommend you. If I'd to find something bad about the player, would be the few video codecs it plays.
SOny A818 it is thx for all the comment guys
