You and your Son have an agreement (a contract). Not your brother-in-law nor anyone else should have any say in it. Keep your word and honor the agreement.
Hope you and your family have a nice Christmas!

I'm a 49 year old gamer & have had just about all of the games mentoned since their beginning. However my favorie is the Wii because of the versatility of playing. It is a bit slower than some of the others, but the quality & unlimited gaming make up for that many times over. The games range from a variety that fit gamers of "all" ages from beginners to pros. Best of all, you can get one for almost nothing compared to the sticker price. That's how I got mine. Just follow the link below & see what I did. If you prefer another game, you can choose one of them too. Go to;

It really works, and is definitely worth a few minutes of time.
Last night our Boy Scout Troop had our annual December lock-in and the Scouts are allowed to bring video games with them. One Scout brought his Wii. I have seen the advertisements for the Wii but I have never had any dealings with one. My two sons (ages 13 & 11) and I (age 42) really enjoyed playing the Wii. I think we enjoyed so much because of the interaction that you have with the system since you have to use your body actions to play it instead of just sitting on the couch. All that I can tell you is that I am SOLD and I am planning to purchase one for my family.

It's as simple as if he wants the Wii, get him the Wii, except for the fact that there are no Wii's out there. You will have to either camp out at one of the local stores or pay through the nose on Ebay, which is what I did.
Too much detail in many of the answers here.
Of course you should buy the Wii. Just look at how hard they are to get hold of, that should tell you everything.
Best regards

Get him a wii, what is happening with Nintendo these days is exactly what happened with 8/10 years ago with playstations, most of the good game devs moved from nintendo to sony and now is the same but backwards.
I can't think of game titles that I like which can't be find on wii and ps3 or wii and xbox, with the exception maybe of Halo 3. A lot of people says that wii is a console for kids, but if you consider that the audience range playin wii is from 10 to 90 yrs old that proves the opposite.
There's only one incovenient with wii games and is that the game from third companies are not much promoted as the games developed by nintendo. So I recommend your son to visit gamespots and site alike to find information about the differents games. I disagree with your brother in law, I own the three consoles, xbox360, PS3 and Wii, and I rather to play 4 hours each day with wii than with the others two consoles which I strongly considering to sell since I don't use them too much.
Another recommendation: Try to buy all the controls, believe me is really annoying to have only one control and the rest of the family wanting to play it.
I'm 25 and I own a Wii. My 22 year-old girlfriend and our 24 year-old room mate LOVE playing on the Wii. We've downloaded some of the titles for the Virtual Console (lets you play old games from the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, TurboGrafix 16 and Sega Genesis era) and are having an absolute blast!
In my opinion as someone who not only owns the Wii but virtually every other current console is to get him one.
I'm not really into game systems, but I love the Wii. I only bought one after I tested my friends' systems, you should definitely let him test it out at the mall kiosks or at electronics stores or even at friends' houses. I'm in my early 20s and I play with my cousins, ages 8 and 13, and they love it too. I also have a coworker who collects all the systems and he uses the Wii more often than the other systems.
The best advice for this situation, you could ask him which game system he prefers. Plain and simple.
Rhonda,
Go ahead with the Wii. It's something the entire family can enjoy playing. Don't bother with the PS3 (not enough games for it yet), and the XBOX does skew to older players... If you are still considering, take a look at your nearest Best Buy. Our stores will feature the Wii in Sunday's (12/16/07) ad circular, meaning that stores will have supply to support the ad. Just call ahead to see how early they open for business.
Good luck & Merry Christmas!

PS3 DOES have games for it. They are actually more diverse and MORE fun than the Xbox 360. I try, and try not to let it get to me, but whenever I read a comment about the PS3's lack of games, especially when I own one, I get a little mad. It's not the generosity that this guy offers its the lack of his opinion. Thankfully, I can share mine as well. ![]()
I can not suggest you to get either gaming system, because I don't know the age of your son. I will give you a story of what has happen in my family as an example. In my family there is my wife and two sons (9 and 4 years old at the time of purchase)
I purchased a Wii for my 9 year old son last year. We all played it last Christmas until the new year. It was fun for us all, but my wife would just let the kids play. After two months and 160 dollars of games and three additional remotes their interest was dropping. For six months, the Wii did not power on. My Wife and I tried to get them back into the 400+ investment that they wanted so badly. So we all would play it and boys lacked interest. Now they are asking for an Xbox 360. We sold the Wii and we are just going to give them a gift card to get what they want.
I suggest that you take your son to Gamestop or any store and allow them to play the Wii. Ask them what they like about it, and what they don't like about it. Figure out if you can solve their dislikes, or just don't buy it. Conduct this test on the systems that are available and see if their interest resides elsewhere. The best question you could ask is 'why does he want it?'.
The Wii is a good family gaming system but when the family does not play it all the time, the lack of interest sets in. Our son has games like Mario Galaxy that was for the individual. That only lasted temporary amount of time.
Good Luck
ooops...your son is 12 years of age...please skip my first sentence.
I just hope you have already purchased the Wii,If not then your son basically was done wrong and you failed to go through with your bargin with him, you are teaching him a bad lesson, he cannot count on his parents to fulfill their obligations. all the comments I have read point this out, and what goes your IN-laws have do with this anyway, You have already answered your own Questions, So it gathers Dust,so did his other phase Toys. The Wii has a real resale value and besides he will not outgrow a Wii. Good Luck trying to get one before Christmas.
I think you should get the Wii. Besides the fact it makes you active, there are great games for it including Carnival games, etc. I currently own the Wii, and it well worth the money. The graphics in my opinion are above average, it has Wifi, and can be expanded to 4 controllers, besides the fact that as of now, some games can be played online with other players. Overall, the Wii is well worth its asking price, compared to the PS3's price of $400 and over.
He wants the wii for a reason. My son and his friends play all three and the wii is unique. They spend more time by far playing the wii than the others. Your problem is going to be finding one!
