I suggest you get what was asked for, and if it is too late to pick it up for Christmas due to a shortage of the game there might be another way to give him what he wants. I understand Nintendo has authorized GameStop to issue gift certificates for the game that can be redeemed in January. That might be a fun way to "fool" the package snooper, shaker at holiday time--when they are looking for the "right" sized box that a Wii should come it..
Hi Rhonda,
He asked for it, and worked hard for it.
I think you should get him a Wii.
I just got a Wii.
I'm 29 years old and I love it. It's not just for kids. It's for people of all ages. It's a great social console. My friends beg to come over just so we can have Wii parties.
Yes,it seems kiddie. It doesn't have the realistic graphics that the other consoles have, but one thing Nintendo hasn't forgotten with the Wii is that these consoles are supposed to be FUN.
The Wii is FUN.
And when I say it's for all ages, I know from experience.
My 90 year old grandmother was thrilled when she tried it.
Good luck hunting!
I think you can find some on Ebay.
Hi Rhonda.I have a Nintendo Wii and they are VERY fun and can help sometimes on some school related things because i have this game : Big brain accademy which has catorgories like memorize , compute , visualize , analyze , identify.
For my birthday / christmas present i got to choose what to get.I didnt want PS3 because to fully enjoy ps3 you need a ; Broadband internet , Hd tv , REALLY EXPENSIVE GAMES , great surround sound, and many more things.
360 You will need;A hd tv again, broadband and some more things.
And Wii you need.
; nothing much
Because wii isnt for good gaming quality , its made for fun.Even on games like metroid prime 3 which has ps2/xbox 360 ish graphics , its still a good game.
The Wii was released at the 7th gen console era which means , that the wii console was released at the same year as the Ps3 and 360.
I was first going to get a Nintendo Ds Lite but my parents asked:
"What one console do like the best, dont care about the money" and was going to say ds but she asked which one did you like the best?
Ask him that question, and get him which console he wants.
Good luck
~ Eddy
There is a very large pool of games for the Wii - from reasonably priced downloadable games from old Nintendo consoles to disc's from the GameCube to dozens of of new titles for teens and adults. Most Wii users switch between WiiMote (motion sensitive controller) games to games played with the classic controller (joy stick). I am 58 years old, had a Wii since it was released, and I am not a bit "tired" of it, plus I have given two consoles as gifts. Your son will love the Wii, just be sure to get one soon - as everyone knows, they are very hard to find.
look,
im a 17 year old boy.
i absolutely LOVE the Wii. i also have an xbox 360. and, being that i work at gamestop, let me give you a bit of advise. The Wii is a fantastic system. but you will probably never find one now. you wated to long. and i feel bad for you're son because he did his best in order to get something he wanted. but the xbox 360, while in stock at most stores, is NOT what he asked for. i recommend trying to get your son a gift card to pay for a Wii when it finally gets in stock somewhere unless you do happen to find one. and, on another note,
the Playstation 3 is a peice of garbage and should not be owned by anyone. im not saying that the system doesnt have potential, but i am saying that if your son ever happens to ask for a ps3, buy him an xbox instead. but like i said, the Wii is an amazing system and well worth your money. buy your son what he asked for! happy holidays.
:]
My son has an older Playstation & when he plays it, he just sits there with a controler in his hand increasing his chance of having carpul tunnel syndrome later in life. He saved up his money and bought a Wii because I refused to get him another game system. Now, I'm really glad he bought it & a bit sorry I didn't. We all play with his Wii. It got him out of his bedroom, got him to play nice with his little sister, got me & his dad off of the couch & playing with him. We are all getting some family time together doing something fun & we're all getting some much needed exercise. So definitely get him the Wii & have some fun yourself!!!!
It is true that there are less main-stream games avalible on the Wii, but that doesnt mean its not fun for all ages... I picked one up about 6 months ago and I invite my freinds over all the time to play it, im 15... We mainly stick to sports titles which are all avalible on the Wii. Now there is a problem with the Wii tho, it is still relitively inexcessible and it is much easyer to find a 360 or a PS3... my recomendation is try to find a Wii and if you cant than get him a PS3, as it is also the cheapest blu-ray player and will come in handy really soon...
NOTE: the best place to find a Wii is toys r us, call often and they will tell you when a shipment is coming, u might have to camp out for a few hours b/f but its worth it. OH and def get him at least 2 more WiiMotes
I'm thirteen (but twelve when I got the Wii), and I personally don't think that the Wii is a great choice. I was in the same situation, begging for a Wii, and my parents made a bargain with me, but two months after getting it, it was untouched. It might be the fact that my game collection was composed of three games (Wii sports, Wii play, and Rayman) but I still don't think that it would have entertained me, even if I did have more. I've even gone back to playing my PS2. I don't think you should get him something different witout discussing it, I personally would have been devestated if I got anything other than the Wii, but definitely think about the alternatives.
I agree with the person just previous to me. The promise was a Wii so that is what it should be. My oldest son is a gamer and has a playstation. My next has a Xbox and neither covets the others games. They are used to what they have and are happy with it. The number of games out there is irrelavent since they make new ones every hour (so it seems). I would be happy that he picked the least expensive. The Wii has caused the others to lower their prices. I can get an Xbox I cannot get a Wii they are always sold out. That alone should tell you something about what is the most popular.
OK - as a parent of 4 kids, I think I'm in a position to offer something that a LOT of people here aren't, the perspective of an actual parent.
First, the whole notion that the Wii is a "kiddie" console and that your son will soon out grow it is really pretty lame. As with the X-Box 360 and PS3, there is a wide range of games for the Wii. From my experience, the Wii definitely encourages social gaming, multi-player in the same room, while the other two tend to favor single-player or online multi-player. If your son has lots of friends, the Wii can be a great choice. Remember, the system is only part of the equation, the games are what ultimately make or break the experience. Any system will gather dust if you fail to keep current with games. I'd "outgrow" the PS3, too, if all I ever bought was Resistance: Fall of Man and never bothered to invest in new games.
Let's put it this way, our family actually has two Wii systems, one in the family room for multi-player party games, and one in our rec room for single-player and multi-player. Right now, my 13-year-old has been playing a lot of Guitar Hero III, WarioWare and Trauma Center with her friends, our 8 and 9 year-old boys have been playing a lot of stuff on virtual console and playing Mario Strikers with their friends, and my 5-year-old daughter and I have been playing Zelda Twilight Princess together. We have Mario Galaxy, Ravin Rabids, Metroid 3 and DDR under the Christmas tree. I haven't even had the time yet to get to Resident Evil 4, and then there's Smash Brothers coming in a few weeks. And don't forget the Virtual Console games, which have proven very popular, too. Oh...
There are lots of really good Gamecube games, too. There are more great games available on the Wii than our family has time to play. So, make a mental note not to trust advice from your brother in law and join the Wii craze. But... keep these things in mind. Game consoles are ultimately only as good as the games. Keep the games coming, consider getting a subscription to GameFly to test-drive new ones. As a parent, you NEED to become better informed about these things. You said you don't pay much attention to gaming, but you need to start now. As a parent, you can save yourself a lot of grief by becoming a gaming expert. Help steer your kid(s) to appropriate games. Start with www.gamespot.com/wii/. Not only will you help monitor the type of games that enter your house, you just might find that you will have a LOT of fun yourself and find something for you and your son to share. In our family, playing video games can be a family event, just like a trip to the park or seeing a movie.
Now, finish your Saturday morning coffee, dress warm, and head down to your local Best Buy/Target/Wal-Mart and start queuing up for the few available Wii systems that will go on sale tomorrow. These things are rare this holiday season, so be prepared to put in some line-time. And, if you get shut out, tell your son, work with him. You may need ot wait until after the holiday, but it sounds like he deserves to have a role in that decision. And above all, have fun and enjoy it!
I have 2 sons and they got a Wii back in july and they love it as do I and my wife. my one son James has lost 15 lb and counting. Son mike has mussels where he didn't And my self and wife get a good work out and no longer have to go to the gym. I think the Wii is the best thing the game industry has come up with ever and I expect the rest to follow suite soon . Get the Wii.
I have 15 and 12 year old kids. In matters like this, they know what they want. So get the Wii. I think you'll enjoy it, too.
Merry Christmas.
As a young kid one may only be wanting something just because his or her friend has it. I know my kid was like that when Nintendo game cube first came out. After a while of playing he hated the system. Not every kid will like the same gaming systems. I am not saying Nintendo is a bad gaming system but all I am saying is if you’re even giving the idea of the promise you made your son a wii a second thought than do the research online and ask others and arm your self with as much information as you can about Playstation 3 and xbox 360. After lay all the information on your son and let him consider without persuading him that one is any better than the others.
Even after all this if your son still wants the wii than get him that. That’s all.
If you promised him to give him a wii in exchange for good grades then I recommend getting him the wii. Dont get me wrong the playstation 3 and the xbox 360 are great units but the wii is better for the money and I think that its a great game system. If you go against getting your son a wii then I would recommend getting him a playstation 3 because there is a great variety of games that are not first person shooters unlike the xbox 360.
even though a wii might just be a fad, i would but one because it has many good games like legend of zelda, mario galaxy, wii sports(comes with system) resedent evil, and soon, super smash brothers BRAWL
