Like most patches, updates, and expansions in MMOs there are a few minor, and the occasional major, problems. In MMO circles it is commonly referred to as Patch Day Syndrome (PDS). Only rarely do the better MMOs like EVE have a critical error like the Boot.ini issue. Unfortunately the issues aren't stopping there.
First of all as a player and a fan I want to point out that this expansion, according to CCP, took 50 man-years to develop, and was developing for Windows 2000, XP, and Vista (DirectX 9) for the first time Mac, and Linux, and Vista (DirectX 10.1). Add to that they are adding the foundation for what they call "Ambulation" which is adding player avatars and the ability to walk on stations and ships. They are supposedly shooting for a whole new level of avatars as compared to their competitors. A rough first draft of this is shown here : http://www.tentonhammer.com/index.php?q=node/620
Some of the known problems recognized by CCP (that mean something to people other than EVE Players) include:
1) Cut/Copy/Paste between EVE Client and Windows does not work
2) EVE Voice (Vivox's voice client integrated into EVE) crashes the game when you are using either Intel 82801EB ER integrated sound, Audigy 2 Sound cards, and according to the community many other Creative Sound Cards
3) ATI X1950 Video Cards cause repeated graphic display issues when running the client.
4) Laptop users using Nvida mobile graphics cards only want to launch the game in windowed mode, and crash if you try to take them to full screen. some of the laptop makers aren't keeping there video drivers up to date.
These however are a mix of player reported and CCP recognized issues that non pilots would be able to empathize with. The Officially recognized list of known issues CCP has put out is STAGGERING! If you would like to see it, There is a free, no credit card needed 14 day account on the home page at EVE-Online.com that will let you register. Then go to the webpage, and on the left hand side go to patch notes under EVE-Insider, log in with your account and password from the 14 day trial, then go to known issues on the navigation bar.
