I have Windows XP on my computer. Recently my screen has been freezing quite frequently (about twice a day). What could I do to stop that freezing? Thank you very much.
With what you have supplied the causes could be anything. If you cannot see the requirements stated in red font above each post window please let us know so we can report the fault to the forum engineers.
What do you mean by screen freeze? Does the monitor freeze or does the Operating System freeze?
Does this happen when you are doing something specific, eg playing a game, or surfing the internet, or using some other software?
How do you get out of this screen freeze, and what happens afterwards?

To Mark Flax: The operating system freezes. It happens after I click on a web site. I get out of the freeze by pressing the reset button on the computer. Nothing happens afterwards. But the screen is liable to freeze at any time.
It says;
"Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended."
If you cannot see it when you are typing your post, please let us know so we can report the error to the CNET engineers.
There could be many causes for a browser to freeze. Viruses, spyware, bad web site design, bad browser plugins or add-ons. An example of which web site causes this would help.
The next time this happens try this. Click the 3 keyboard keys CTRL+ALT+Del at the same time to bring up the Task Manager. In the "Applications" tab, find and highlight your browser and then click the "End task" button.
This should close down the browser so you can start again.

Funny thing for me is that my system freezes also, but only when I access CNET news pages. I receive daily news alerts from CNET (CNET News.com Alerts [news-alerts@news-alerts.cnet.com]) as well as from several other news sources. But everytime I access CNET's news, MS Explorer freezes. Only CNET's. I have to access several times and scroll down to continue reading before a screen freeze. How can this happen with only one source? Specific cookie? Corporate proxy?
As a matter of fact, I found this forum by Googling cnet +freeze to see if this was happening with anyone else. Anyone?
PS: Also happens with CNET News.com Morning Dispatch [newsletters@news.online.com]
there is little we can suggest to help.
Corporate IT Managers would not welcome CNET members offering guidance on how to delve into their machines to change settings or investigate faults.
I feel your best bet is to put this to your local IT rep and ask them to have a look.

Are you using IE7? I had the exact same problem and it turned out to be Add-ons, carried over from IE6, not working properly in IE7. First, you need to disable ALL of the add-ons and then enable them, one-by-one, until you find the one or ones that make your system to freeze. Then you need to uninstall whatever programs they may be and re-install them.
First, before you do this, follow my instructions at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=274178&messageID=2645258&tag=mcnt (post 4 of 6). This will help to rid your system of any spyware/adware that may be screwing up your computer.
Now follow the instructions that I have written at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=275133&messageID=2650942&tag=mcnt (post 4 of 6). This will tell you how to disable all of your add-ons and then re-enable them.
