MY GPS is a Garmin 2610 and is about 5 years old. Still using original map set (declined offer 2 years ago to update maps for $150). It has proven to be very useful -though we do not use it a whole lot. Mainly for vacations (and interesting side trips with no worry of getting "lost") and sometimes finding restaurants, etc. Only problem we've had developed when we took it to Florida last May. It got "baked" in the car and now, when it get hot from sitting on dashboard, sometime it all but stops to function. We will then move it off the dashboard to let it cool down.
There has been very little problem with using the old map set. I guess where we go there have not been that many (or major) changes to the routes.
i have asked for one of these this christmass, the Garmin GPSMAP 60csx
this thing is a handheld unit that has a micro SD slot, its water proof for a few feet over a half an hour, and one of its main features im looking for is Geocacheing, its basicly treasure hunting on steroids. but, the real reason for this is i do alot of quading and with this unit i will be able to put waypoints on things find, as well as save my tracks and upload them onto my pc. also when on a new trail its easy to get turned around, and this is where a gps comes in handy.
We own a Garmin 350 and love it. We don't get lost anymore when driving (or at least we recover when we take a wrong turn), the Detour function has saved us collective hours of sitting in traffic, and we can find the quickest way to get somewhere and have a very good sense of when we'll arrive with its time estimate. Best of all, no more fights in the car over being lost. I use it around town and have found many new ways to get places. I also use it when just walking on errands. The POIs have come in handy when looking for stores. Love it!
We're currently looking for a trail hiking GPS that also does street maps for my husband (since I carry the 350 with me in my purse). The Garmin GPSMap 60CSx and 76CSx, Magellan Triton (not yet released), and DeLorme Earthmate PN-20 are high on our list. They all look good. The Triton is slipping off the list since it's still not available, and sometimes it's no fun to be a "first adopter". As much as we love Garmin, reviews of their topo maps aren't as high as the PN-20, and maps are what it's all about, so looks like we might get a PN-20 for Christmas.
I already own one-garmin 60cx for my excursion
and Edge 305 hr for my mbike
