I have an Xbox- The tv that it is on now is tiny and terrible and I can see what I'm doing. It would be perfect for me to hook up the xbox to one of my High resolution Computer screens. But I have the obvious problem of converting composite to vga video.
If anyone knows how to do this, let me know. I've been all over google with little success. I'm just looking for the cheapest way to convert composite to vga.
Thanks for any help,
Dan
You'll need a signal converter to be able to do this. If you live within reasonable distance of a Radio Shack, they're likely to have such a device. It's up to you if you want to buy it there, since you could probably get it quite a bit cheaper elsewhere, but it will give you a good idea of what you're looking for either way.
If this is an original Xbox and not a 360, and you don't mind a little electronics work, you can actually make your own VGA cable. You'll then need to get a special VGA enabled BIOS for it, but it's probably the cheapest solution. Pretty sure this option won't work for the 360. It only works on the original Xbox, because it was basically just a small form factor PC.
do you have a link to where I can see how to make my own vga cable?
It is an original xbox
thanks for the answer
Not offhand, no, I don't have a link. But I almost certainly saw it over on www.xbox-scene.org. Either on their site or in their forums somewhere.
IIRC, FrostyTheSnowman is the one generally doing most of the work on VGA BIOSes. Though he only modifies the official Xbox BIOSes to add VGA support, so all of the questionable features that people tend to like so much about the X2 and M8 BIOSes aren't present. If you do a little looking in the right places, and the only help I'll give you is the word "xbins", you should be able to find a few X2 or M8 BIOSes with VGA support. Keep in mind virtually all work on the original Xbox ground to a halt before this feature was ever perfected, so there may be bugs.
