Well I have had my X50V since late 2004 before I went to Iraq. I bought it for many reasons, but the main reasons were: Playing music, reading Microsoft .lit e-books and watching the occasional movie. I like to read a lot so this was a BIG reason for me, I didn’t want to go over there with a duffel bag full of books like some of my buddies. (I hate trying to read PDF or .txt.) I also use the to-do list, notes, and calendar function quite often, Id feel lost without it now. I used the PDA to view the pics of my wife and family when I was lonely, and when I was really bored and didn’t want to read anymore I played bejeweled or something similar, not button heavy since the buttons kinda suck on the x50V. The combination SD and CF storage ability meant I could store all the books, music, photos and a movie or two on it. The VGA screen was a must because I didn’t want to strain my eyes trying to read, and I wanted a crisper larger screen to watch movies and read books on. I also really like that I could stick in my pocket and go, i knew it was there, but it wasn’t too intrusive.
Well now I’m getting ready to go over to Iraq again and my X50V is about to go kaput. It randomly turns off, it doesn’t charge when I put it on the docking station (I have an extra battery so I just charge one while using the other) and when I push a button on it, it also turns off, it keeps saying the battery compartment was opened. Don’t get me wrong, this thing has been great for me and more than fulfilled my expectations over the last three years of HEAVY use, dust, grit, wind, dropping, weight (from gear being inadvertently piled on it) etc ( I bought the rhino skin which was more than worth the $35). I’m tempted to get on Amazon to buy the X51V from Amazon since Dell decided to stop making/selling it.
Before I do this though I’d like some opinions, should I wait until the HP Ipaq 210 gets released? The Ipaq 210 seems to be the next step up from the x51v, but it only uses micro SD.... Can it use a 4gb (or bigger) Micro sd card? Or should I just get the familiar x51v?
sorry for the wall of text and thanks for your input in advance. I’m gonna post this on a couple pages so you might see this in other places.
the only problem is that it's pretty expensive and doesn't have a GPU like the X50v
Just today there was an article speculating Dell's re-entry into the mobile market, but I don't know if you can wait or not
