I agree, 3rd party apps are the best part!

by Sportzguy933 - 12/10/07 6:29 PM In reply to: It should be supported by motoxer0017

The problem with the iPhone is that 3rd Party Apps are probably the best (or.....going to be......the best....) part of the iPhone. It's more than enough to convince almost anyone to buy, and then to jailbreak, their phone, and once the SDK is released, the iPhone will finally be crowned.

As for an MMS fix, most people actually do know the MMS Gateway for their carrier if you ask them "how do you email something to your phone" or something, almost everyone I know knows how to do that, and most of them aren't very tech-oriented. Either way, I'm sure there will be a fix coming soon in a software update, there's just no way Apple will overlook it twice.

Now, don't flame me for saying this, but Apple **may have** intentionally left out some noticeable, but features you could still live with out, out of the iPhone so that they could start some hype every once and a while, so that they could release it on time, and so that they could prove to the world that the updating system that the iPhone uses is better than any other phone's, and it is!

Voyager, DUH!

by mdx543 - 2/6/08 10:32 PM In reply to: It should be supported by motoxer0017

who cares if the the voyager doesn't have wifi. it still has a great user interface. also, typing on a virtual keyboard is hard, whereas the qwerty keyboard on the voyager is no match for the iPhone's virtual keyboard. they both have 2 MP camera, but the iPhone has more memory. but 8 gig is for EVERYTHING. movies, music and contacts. itunes is good, but you need a computer. but with the voyager, you can make over the air purchases. something you cant do with the Iphone.

Uhhhhh What?

by ser3232 - 1/24/08 11:01 PM In reply to: LOL, no MMS? by norbdad

Sexiness?!?

by Rod Roddy - 12/6/07 6:19 PM In reply to: CNET Prizefight: Apple iPhone vs. LG Voyager by KentGerman CNET staff

Sexiness is the last thing I'm thinkin' about when I buy a phone. Functionality and reliability are top priority. Both phone have that(I think) but I think I'd go with the Voyager. I don't know, call me "Human" but I need the tactile feel of pressing a button. Besides, I've seen iPhone users roaming the streets like lemmings and tapping on the glass screen like if they were at an aquarium--NO THANKS.

Sexiness?

by BigFatBill - 12/6/07 9:34 PM In reply to: Sexiness?!? by Rod Roddy

How could you say that sexiness has nothing to do with the purchase of your phone? It has a very big part of everyone's decision making. Otherwise we'd all be driving Ford Escorts and using CRT monitors. Look and feeel (which is a better term than sexiness) is a huge part of buying a cell phone. Otherwise, I'd just cram all those cool features into a Zack Morris brick phone.

Voyager is plain ugly

by sevort - 12/7/07 2:36 PM In reply to: Sexiness? by BigFatBill

I don't understand how Voyager got any points in sexiness... It's ugly, plain and simple. Its design and QWERTY keyboard copied from old Nokia Communicator and HTC smart phones, and comparing it to iPhone is simply silly. And, no, I do not have an iPhone and am not going to get it until v2 at least.

CNET is crazy

by BigFatBill - 12/6/07 9:30 PM In reply to: CNET Prizefight: Apple iPhone vs. LG Voyager by KentGerman CNET staff

Once again, CNet proves that they're crazy. The iPhone is the clear winner. They are comparing the iPhone that has been out for a while against the Voyager which is brand new. The iPhone couldn't have 3G because it didn't exist in a small enough form factor back then. The next iPhone will.

The on screen keyboard may seem difficult to use at first, but ask any iPhone user and they will tell you that it is very easy to use once you get used to it. Why have a keyboard taking up space when you aren't using it 90% of the time? The iPhone keyboard only pops up when typing is required.

Multimedia messaging? Who needs that? Type an email or talk on the phone. Pick one.

The Safari web browser kills any type of web browsing experience on any cell phone. Also, when the 3rd party developer SDK is released, you will see a slew of new iPhone apps that will destroy any other phones built in applications. Look at the ones that are currently available for the jailbroken iPhones.

iPhone wins.

Hmmm...

by tinytimm7 - 12/6/07 11:07 PM In reply to: CNET is crazy by BigFatBill

Everybody here is a critic.
It is obvious that you are an apple fan boy, but besides, you are plain ignorant. The Iphone will most likley not be upgrading to 3G, as you so infer, wifi is enough for this phone. Also, people use Multi-Media messaging, hate to burst your bubble.

This prizefight is a tough call, both are awesome phones, but serve to completly different clientel. Both have there flaws, but, the voyager does fight through. In my opinion, the iphone is very unique, but its lack of basics, and a bad network, make it a little easier to compete with.
(BTW- The whole recessed headphonejack???? This should show how money grubing, apple can be.)

The voyager wins for taking something inventive, then applying to our lives, and building off that.

We have 2 amazing phones here, but....

STARE DECISIS
(let it stand)

facts are facts

by jackwise11 - 12/8/07 11:45 PM In reply to: Hmmm... by tinytimm7

Cnet actually had an article that says that the next iphone is going to be 3g capable so I would check on things before critisizing. The fact is if you ask 9 out of 10 people if they wanted an iphone (on any carrier) compared to a voyager everybody would say iphone. I personally don't have an iphone but let's face it. It's just what is hot for now.

I suggest you learn your languages before trying to show off

by Sportzguy933 - 12/9/07 8:56 AM In reply to: Hmmm... by tinytimm7

Stare Decisis is the Latin term for "to stand by that which is decided." The basic Latin term for "Let it Stand" is Staret Id.

Of course, one can see what you are trying to say, but nothing pisses me off more than people that think they know what they're talking about, try to show off with it, and really have no clue. So some advice:
Learn your languages before trying to use them to show off or make you look good.

3G in a small form factor?

by norbdad - 12/7/07 7:58 AM In reply to: CNET is crazy by BigFatBill

Have you ever even seen a RAZR or a KRZR or some of the teensy phones that both Sprint and VZ have out on their 3G networks? A few of those are packed to the gills.

I've seen the guts, the hardware for 3G transmission aren't that large. It may stand that Apple wouldn't have been able to cram even that into their slim handset, but what is a few centimeters?

People say these thing as if Apple created the iPhone 10 years ago and it's the staunch incumbent in a hard fought battle...It doesn't have the market share to require a true "killer phone". Mainly we're just seeing if VZ can stem the very very very slow trickle of iPhone switchers and win back some of those that are looking for a reason to go back.

Apple and oranges

by nextcube - 12/7/07 12:45 PM In reply to: 3G in a small form factor? by norbdad

The RAZR and KRZR you're referring to are CDMA/EVDO phones on VZW and Sprint, not GSM/UMTS. Different technologies, different parts. It's been stated recently that Apple will be selling 3G iPhones in 2008, now that new 3G chipsets meet their size and power consumption requirements.
AT&T RAZRs only support GPRS, and KRZRs support EDGE, so the GSM versions are no faster than the iPhone.

3G in a RAZR?

by BigFatBill - 12/9/07 10:39 PM In reply to: 3G in a small form factor? by norbdad

Quote: "Have you ever even seen a RAZR or a KRZR or some of the teensy phones that both Sprint and VZ have out on their 3G networks? A few of those are packed to the gills."

Of course the RAZR can use existing 3G chips, they don't have to worry about battery life. The iPhone has a giant touch screen with tons of mutimedia features and the 3G chips that existed when the iPhone came out consumed too much power. The iPhone a lot of network connectivity for Visual Voicemail, Email, YouTube, Safari, etc. so the 3G chips would have sucked up battery life, so they went for EDGE. Now that 3G chips consume less power, you will see the next iPhone use them. This has been an almost confirmed rumor and Jobs will hopefully make it official at MacWorld.

What about syncing with existing technology

by swray - 12/7/07 11:02 AM In reply to: CNET Prizefight: Apple iPhone vs. LG Voyager by KentGerman CNET staff

This is actually a very important piece of functionality, and why I put off buying a smart phone for 4.5 years. Shouldn't a smart phone work with your other technology. Otherwise you can get buy with simple handsets. I think you need a round 6.

Should have included syncing and monthly cost

by twestley - 12/7/07 12:51 PM In reply to: CNET Prizefight: Apple iPhone vs. LG Voyager by KentGerman CNET staff

You should have included a round for syncing files, contacts, bookmarks, and calender with my PC.

You should have also included a round for monthly cost. One of the reasons I favor iPhone over any other AT&T smartphone is monthly cost of the data plan. I would have liked to know what the Voyager data plans cost.
