Vista (32 bit) ignores power settings

by rdwalton - 12/7/07 7:33 AM

When I set my power settings in Vista, it ignores them. I have my power settings to turn off the display after 20 minutes and to turn off the hard drive after 30 mins. When that time elapses, the machine and the monitor remains on and the screen saver kicks in. However, if I set my screen saver to 40 minutes, then the power settings take effect. It's as if the screen overrides the power settings when the screen saver is set to begin before the powers settings do. Anyone else experienced this problem?

I have mine set for screensaver (after 10 minutes) and for sleep at (1 hour). Seems to work pretty well... sometimes the screensaver does not come on as I think it should.

Hmmm

Well, that's what I'm running (Ultimate) and it's like clock work. If I make the power settiings effective before the screen saver, then it works. Need to research this more.

Thanks for the reply...

I think that's a known issue.

I won't research it but I recall Microsoft tells the owner to change the settings so the power savings happen first.
