Does Canon HG-10 record in standart definition?
If not, the process to convert the HD video in SD requires much time?

Post 32 of 41

Yes.

Both camcorders will recorder in high definition, and standard definition (4:3 and 16:9).

This is in their respective user guides.

Both camcorders can record in

by boya84 - 12/6/07 12:29 PM In reply to: format... by carmolim

high definition 1080i (by default, this is 16:9)
standard definition (4:3)
standard definition (16:9)

The Canon may have other resolution selections - this information is in the manual available for free download at the HG10 product home page under the "Drivers & Downloads" tab:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=177&modelid=15617

The Sony manual is available for free download at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=HDRSR7
You will want the HandyCam Handbook and the Operating Guide.

In both cases, there are links to manufacturer accessories, too. And the list of available accessories is also in the manuals.

sorry,

I think I made the wrong question...
I want to know if the Canon only record at 1920x1080 or itīs record in other "size" (this is right?) like 1280x720...

Did you down load read the manual?

by boya84 - 12/6/07 3:18 PM In reply to: ops... by carmolim

In the various menu selection descriptions, is there one which selects 720 (or other high def resolution)?

Does knowing this impact your decision on which camcorder to buy?

Post 37 of 41

yes...

by carmolim - 12/6/07 3:57 PM In reply to: Did you down load read the manual? by boya84

yes I downloaded the manual, but I canīt find anything about that...

If I want make a movie for web, I donīt need to record in 1920x1080, right?

so I want to know if I can record in smaller sizes...

the manual only bring informations about the size of the still pictures...

Capture the video

in High definition or standard definition video. The video editing application on your will have options for various compression and sizing issues. If your video editing application does not have this capability, there are several downloadable utilities to select and specify the size, format, compression method and audio type - among other things...

Got lost...

by fpflug - 5/24/09 6:43 PM In reply to: Yes. by boya84

Before reading the forum, I've been at Canon's website, where I saw under FAQ for HF20...

<quote>
Issue: Can my camcorder record both SD and HD video?
Solution: The VIXIA HF and HG series camcorders only record HD video

The VIXIA HF and HG series camcorders only record HD video using the AVCHD video format. Standard definition video recording is not possible. Video recorded by high definition camcorders may be converted to standard definition using many commercially available software applications.

Video converted to standard definition cannot be played back by the camcorder.

<unquote>

What I would be interested is if their software converts from HD to SD.

The software included

by boya84 - 5/25/09 7:15 AM In reply to: Got lost... by fpflug

in the box with the camcorder is useless.

MovieMaker cannot deal with AVCHD video directly.

Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere are the usual suspects for Windows/Vista; iMovieHD '08 or newer or current version of FinalCut (both need to be running on an Intel Mac) are the usual suspects for Apple Macintosh. There are other titles available.

better alternative

for simple (and complex) conversion of any container and codec, check out the NOT commercial awesome free software mediacoder. resizes and transcodes everything! you dont have to install any special codecs either. comes with all needed codecs(though doesn't install those to be used with apps like media player classic etc, its more like the way vlc does it, except that this one is a converter).
