I agree

by elvenjewel - 10/30/07 1:16 AM In reply to: Enhancement by laduqesa

I don't have a beef with any enhancement, honestly -- as long as it's disclosed. They're achieving amazing results with new techniques, and I think that's fine as long as the buyer knows and is okay with what they're receiving, and the stone is valued accordingly.

Where problems arise is when the seller is deceptive, and that happens WAY too often.

Platinum Diamonds Company

by laduqesa - 12/6/07 12:56 PM In reply to: I agree by elvenjewel

It seems that the BBC has got into the act. A viewer of "Watchdog" complained about a company on Ebay called PlatinumDiamonds, from whom they got a crap diamond ring. When they complained, they were offered another, £1000 more expensive, and told there would be no refund unless they coughed up. They foolishly did so and got a worse deal. They left negative feedback and pursued a claim to get a refund. The company told them the only way they'd get part of their money back was if they removed their negative feedback. They complained to Ebay - no result. When the BBC programme contacted Ebay, a sudden miracle happened. PlatinumDiamonds was "suspended" pending an investigation. The couple got their money. Other instances of the practises this thread has noted were given to Ebay. It remains to be seen if this results in proper real changes.

Let's keep each other posted.

Watchdog do not give true light to platinum diamonds

by mr right80 - 12/8/07 1:36 AM In reply to: Platinum Diamonds Company by laduqesa

As a former employee of Platinum Diamonds I can certaintly say that the way in which Mr Ribbans told the story of their case is certainly not true. Platinum Diamonds always supply Diamonds that as described unfortuantley some customer do not read the information listed prior to buying. After 3 years of trading on eBay I can assure you if Platinum Diamonds was trading in the manor that Mr Ribbans lead us to beleive then they would of been shut down by trading standards a long time ago. As I am sure most people aware in any business you do there is always the odd customer who feel they are hard dumb by, this certainly seems to be the case with Mr Ribbans.

Sorry, totally untrue.

by rewog2 - 12/15/07 1:32 AM In reply to: Watchdog do not give true light to platinum diamonds by mr right80

The claim that Platimun supply gems as advertised is completely untrue.
Platinum Diamonds (and sister company Riviera Jewels)have a long history of supplying poor quality gems, and then Blackmailing their customers into removing any Negative Feedback.
They charge a 10% re-stocking fee, even when the gem is obviously not what was advertised.
Their diamonds are often undersized & much poorer colour and clarity than stated.
I have emails here from more than 10 disgruntled customers, and a long list of altered Feedback.
Thank God Ebay "finally" stopped ignoring all the complaints and put a stop to it !

Your response to the person who allegedly worked for Platinum Diamonds is temperate and appropriate. This whole area of selling needs to be investigated and dealt with. I just hope the BBC keep the pressure up and manage to get Ebay to forgo some of their immorally-earned profits that they must make via these unsavoury characters and companies.

If someone had been ripped off by one of these companies, I wonder if the local Trading Standards body could do anything? Or is Ebay registered overseas? Unfortunately, for Trading Standards to investigate, you have to be one of the people who's been ripped off - and I was lucky to avoid it!

Is there someone there who could have a go? maybe that's another route to stop this scandal.

FTC

by AVCove - 1/4/08 3:29 PM In reply to: I agree by laduqesa

I have also had a nasty experience with these scammers.
I have filed a complaint with the BBB
I am filing with the California Attorney General
I am filing with the Federal Trade Commission
There are a number of Jeweler trade organizations on the paramount/hill st/hot jewelry site and I will complain to them as well.
But only media attention will force Ebay to do the right thing and shut these theives down.

Name Change

by Laura240sx - 2/23/08 8:32 PM In reply to: Platinum Diamonds - Riviera Jewels by rewog2

I was looking on EBAY live auctions and found another live website by the Ebay user name: jewelry-overstock-auctions they have a 99.1% positive rating however the use the same "ACA" rating for gems. In all my years of buying jewelry I have never seen this rating on any single reputable jewelery website. Nor have I ever seen or heard anyone mention that particular rating in any store I have ever been in. Thank you so much for the information! All of you confirmed my suspicion when I did a search through Google and the only link for this type of certification was their particular website. What a joke! I feel so bad for people who were suckered in. Thank you, Thank you Thank you! Use common sense and do homework and if it seems too good to be true it probably is. FYI I watched their auction for 4 hours straight while researching it before deciding it was a joke after about the first 5 minutes. The only thing that kept me hanging in there was EBAY's reputation and feedback. They should be ashamed for not protecting their customers better!

Excellent News

by laduqesa - 3/1/08 1:05 PM In reply to: Hot jewlery auction lawsuit link by jewelryguy

At last someone's doing something in the courts! It'll be interesting to see the result. I'd like to know the follow-up from the BBC investigation, but I've seen nothing since the original programme.

Does anyone have info on that?

Everyone ripped off should band together

by wildchatt - 3/5/08 11:34 AM In reply to: Excellent News by laduqesa

Most of the people ripped off by these cheats probably felt they didn't lose enough money worth the hassle of a lawsuit - but if they all banded together and made a class-action lawsuit, they could hit these cheats where it hurts and maybe even get some of their money back. Everyone who wants to go after these criminals should contact the attorney handling the case. If they can't make a class action suit, then maybe they could testify or issue sworn statements to bolster Michelle's case.
