Uninstall VersionTracker pro

by Charlie2244 - 8/19/08 9:09 AM In reply to: Uninstalling VersionTracker Pro by smedleyd CNET staff

First: http://support.versiontracker.com. comes up with nothing when searching on uninstall.

Second: are there instructions somewhere? to uninstall VersionTracker pro completely? Meaning not only programs\uninstall but also everthing out of the registry.
This forum has information that is conflicting.

Third: I do not like having to email support and then never getting an answer back. Also searching these forums for hours and finding conflicting info from users whose expertise is questionable.

If it only worked as described.......

by bounders - 12/5/07 3:13 PM In reply to: VersionTracker Pro, a new CNET service by peterbutler CNET staff

but it doesn't. I tried this software on my HP notebook but 67% of the versions it found could not be downloaded from their appropriate sites. Why would CNET put their reputation on the line with faulty software

Having problems downloading such a high percentage of your results is considerably out of the norm. Our technical support team would be happy to run through this with you. You may contact us here:

Not the norm?

by LadySherotica - 3/5/08 1:40 AM In reply to: Re. If it only worked as described....... by CNET TechTracker Staff2

Again, you're NOT listening to those in this thread. If you were, you'd realize we're ALL saying this is the norm for this software. It's crap. Period. From telling us that versions were incorrect when they weren't, telling us that we needed a new version when our version is actually newer, downloads that aren't where the link shows them to be to downright crashing our systems ... the software ... does ... not ... work.

Does THIS compute?

Version Tracker Pro Uninstall Experience - partial success

by armin1us - 5/27/08 9:49 PM In reply to: Re. If it only worked as described....... by CNET TechTracker Staff2

My experience (Dell Inspiron 5100 with Windows XP Home)with Version Tracker Pro was similarly negative - the software listed drivers as updated, when they were not - and visa versa.

My attempt to uninstall Version Tracker Pro through Ad-Remove-Programs in the control panel seemed to go fine for a few minutes, but then the uninstall program froze - and did not finish the deinstallation for more than 1 hour.

So, I removed the remaining files and fragments by searching for Tech Tracker and Version Tracker in the Registry and the rest of the computer and removed everything by right-clicking and deleting.

Afterwards, I ran TuneUp 2007 and Diskeeper (Defragmenter). Now, everything should be cool.

I would also recommend to CNET to discontinue the Version Tracker Pro offer, until a lot of additional work has been done.

Ouch

by booker6333 - 12/8/07 2:48 PM In reply to: VersionTracker Pro, a new CNET service by peterbutler CNET staff

Paid my money and took my lumps.
One computer is almost back to working order after the mess Version Tracker made.
The other is still on the blink.
Thanks a bunch.

Ouch, too

by LadySherotica - 12/16/07 10:54 PM In reply to: Ouch by booker6333

I have trusted CNET for years and had no problem with paying two years up front for this program. Hours later, my brand-new HP system is almost managable again after the mess this program made of it! I had to roll back drivers as well as restore my whole system to a previous point from last week! This program is just awful and I cannot post a strong enough warning: do not download, do not use!

To add insult to injury, I had several programs where VT told me my version was older when it wasn't! Yes, I know how and where to check the version numbers and VT was wrong, wrong, wrong! This is in addition to not being able to install some of the updates at all and ... yeah, one problem after another in the hours since I purchased it. Thank god it's now gone from my system, but, lucky me, I have a two year plan purchased. woohoo.

Might wish to check out eSupport

HP even downloads there Bios through them and they provide a free review of your system but you have to go get any out of date drivers yourself unless you pay. After the $$$ then you get them automatically.

Why mix Mac and Windows?

by sagotillo - 12/17/07 10:31 AM In reply to: VersionTracker Pro, a new CNET service by peterbutler CNET staff

I was sent here from Versiontracker Pro Mac. There we discussed the Mac version. Why mix Mac and Window's discussions?

This forum is still pretty new, as interest builds we will split Mac and Windows out. Thank you.

Stop the madness!

by LadySherotica - 12/19/07 11:16 PM In reply to: Mac and Windows by dsmedley

Okay, this sucks ... why am I getting two notifications each time ONE new post is added? There is only one post here, yet I got two emails advising me there was a new post. Come on, CNET, your site is better than this! Sheesh ...
