When Harry McCracken quit PC World for essentially the same reason CNET was outraged. Tom and Molly ranted about it on several podcasts.
Where is the outrage now? I guess its an outrage to bow to advertisers unless they are CNET advertisers.
I quote myself from another thread: "Tom and Molly were told by their editor in chief (or something like that) told them not to comment on it. I think it's understandable since there has not yet been any official response from CNET Networks (except from some useless crap).
But I agree with you that it would be nice to hear their take on it. But unfortunately it's not that likely." http://urlx.org/forums.cnet.com/11b9a
It really isn't fair to get angry at TMJ. I really think they want to talk about it, but they just can't.
Outrage goes only so far is your pay check is at stake.
Getting fired for not giving games from companies that advertise with you good enough scores? I guess I have to wonder about the next review I read from this site, who paid for that score will be the main question.
When ever I have had to let someone go, there were usually many previous matters, and then the one final straw that made it happen. It is not fun to ever let someone go. It is not easy and it is certainly not something done lightly.
Just my 2 cents.
This fiasco proves that the only product reviewer I can trust is myself.
I can read every single review about anything, but the only thing that will convince me to keep the product is to use it first then decide whether to keep it or not.
First of all, I've never read anything at Gamespot before or after this whole fiasco, so I can't really comment on what is going on over there.
However, I have been a loyal everyday listener for a year and a half. And, in that time Tom and Molly have earned my trust. If nothing else, I've heard them openly criticize EarthLink, the sole advertiser of the show, multiple times. But, more than that, they consistently speak their mind and give voice to people who disagree with them.
If it is true that because the same company owns both CNET and Gamespot that eventually CNET will also become corrupt, I'm at least going to wait until it actually happens before I swear off BOL.
I am not stupid, and if Buzz Out Loud starts giving biased information I think I will be able to tell pretty quick. So far, though, all I have seen is great stuff from Buzz Out Loud, and until that changes I'm still going to listen every day.
This was according to a thread I read over on GS (Tuesday).
It does seem suspect though. Actually it sounds alot like the situation at PC Mag earlier in the year and it sounds like it stems from the same reason.
... shady...
I have also dropped the Hotspot podcast and rss feed. Since Jeff was the most articulate reviewer there (IMO), no need to go back at all.
just my $.02
It explains absolutely nothing, just says that they won't tell us why...
must we be reminded of this every time we browse the forums? If the thread is popular enough, it'll keep itself at the top.
Just a thought,
Dr. Karl
As long as this stays a relevant issue it will stay at the top; but even though I think this is important, I don't want to have to be reminded of this crap every time I come here.
Just seconding the thought,
JP the Drummer
This will show all your posts. Find this thread and untrack it. Just a, for your information (FYI).
What hasn't been realized here is that hate and anger are an acid that consumes its on vessel.
