Take a look at that system.

Built on www.cyberpowerpc.com

Basically, before I spend well over a thousand bucks on it, I just want to check over and make sure if there is anything "wrong" with the PC.

Such as not enough cooling, video card with poor critique reception, bottlenecking, etc.

Also, I've decided to continue to play it safe and stick with Windows XP Home Edition and not switch over to Windows Vista yet. Conclusively, I've judged that it still too soon to switch over as I'm not a person who likes to enjoy software compatibility issues etc. I realize my video card is DirectX10 and I will need Vista to run DX10 at its fullest, but I will bite the bullet and wait a bit longer until a switch. Besides, there are tons of programs out there that are succesfully unlocking many DX10 visuals in games through XP.

Why AMD ??? Intel is the preferred CPU at this time.

Brand name RAM is overpriced....see 2GB kits at Newegg.com ...such as Crucial ... $95.99 - $35.00 rebate net cost $59.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146565

What's the intended/primary use ?

Add an FDD ...better to have and not need than not have and need.

I'm alright about the price, regardless if a certain component has been overpriced. It is a good deal generally, and I am not looking forward to having to purchase a seperate component and having to open up the case up and pop it in etc.

It is a student's PC with obviously gaming in mind. the 8800 GT has good reception right now, and it can max out all games on the market. The PC of course will also be used for some word processing and studying.

And what is an FDD?

FDD = Floppy Disk Drive

by VAPCMD - 11/24/07 10:49 PM In reply to: No Subject by mehicd2

No question about the graphics card (GPU) .. but AMD is just not the platform of preference I see anywhere. Feel free to read further here on CNET...you won't find otherwise unless you go back beyond the Intel C2D CPUs.

You're not going wrong...you're just not getting the best CPU for your buck. Check'um out at http://www.tomshardware.com under CPU charts.

I'm not trying to get the best CPU "for my buck", I'm trying to get the best CPU that can run games the best within my general price range.

Bypassing all AMD v.s. Intel debate there is enough evidence to support AMD is overall better in video game processing, especially at high strains on video cards. I'm definitely not going wrong if I pick Intel or AMD, but I've been with AMD for years now, and no AMD processor has ever let me down.

Hehe, yea I haven't used a floppy since more then five years ago, but I agree with your philosophy. The technology is pretty much phased out both in terms of hardware use and socially. Its only about five-ten bucks on the site to get one, and I may as well just for the "historical value" since it is no biggie. hehe.

Can't go wrong with AMD or CyberPower

by MicroNix - 12/1/07 6:59 AM In reply to: No Subject by mehicd2

I agree. AMD multi-core architecture has been done "the right way" from get-go. I'm not a big fan of when someone comes out with a new quad core architecture done by slapping together two dual cores just to be the first to say "I've got a dual core processor!!" and toot their horn.

And CyberPowerPC is hands down one of the best places to get a PC. I have an AMD system from them that is now 3 years old and have recommended them to friends and fellow IT co-workers who have gone and bought/recommended them for family, friends and themselves and all have had the excellent experience that I had purchasing from them. A quality PC at a good price with top components you can choose from.

Cyberpower PC

They are a good company with admirable pricing on components, but they're customer support is next to nothing. The guys know very little about hardware components, and they all sound like they are high on drugs when talking to you.
