I just installed a 4000 on my husbands new HP laptop and while reading up on the mouse in Microsot support I saw a bullitin on this problem that you mentioned. I just cleaned out my history cache last night - so I can't tell you exactly what the bullitin # is but go to Microsoft support and key in your symptom in the search box with as few words as possible but include complete name description of mouse ie Optical 5000 or whatever the full name is and you'll get the fix up on the support page on the first try.
Good luck and sorry I zapped out all my history but I have just upgraded my PC from XP to Vista and it was rather full....
Speed comparison charts I see for XP and Vista, as well as customer reviews, tell me: NO WAY! It's just one of the biggest insults to the history of computing. I have XP, which is fine, but I mainly use Mac nowadays. It's just faster and pretty much problem-free. I've used Vista a little, and I see no compelling reason to get it instead of XP; it's just worse than XP with a couple features I already have in Mac. I will never go back to the Dark Side.
It has been very interesting to follow replies.XP seems to have suddenly become very popular.I said previously I was keeping for the time being XP as Vista was too slow. When I upgrade to a more powerful computer I am sure Vista will be alright.Microsoft will ensure it is the O.S. of the future until they introduce another.I have in the past had a few crashes with XP more than 98 2k or the much maligned ME.I just wonder what the greens are saying to a world wide community using much more power hungry machines in this age when less power is being advocated for most other appliances.Re.Linux Ubuntu seems to be the rage right now but I found Xandros one of the easiest to install and use.I find I can use it as a good replacement for microsoft
My newest computer came with Vista already installed and I HATE IT! I miss my XP : (
I've watched this forum w/ great interest. My PC purchased last season came w/ the free Vista upgrade - I did not install it until this last week.
I had to - my husbands new laptop was on it's way and I needed to see just how truely difficult it was. Well - I find all these complaints overblown.
1st - if you have enough memory it does not slow down your system, 2nd if you do not have enough memory buy it - most systems only need 1 additional GB and for most mfg's if you are running Office or another software that requires a good bit of memory (unless you are a hard core gamer, and in that case you already have more memory than most of us and have a system capable of the 4+ GB needed) the additional memory will run you UNDER 100.00 for most, cost me 86.11 for 2GB's, product, total includes: tax and S & H. I was running on 1GB DDR2 533 Mhz w/ PC2 4200. So now I'm running on 3GB's. If you are wealthly buy your memory from your manufacturer - if you are like me shop Kingston, Best Buy (when on sale), Newegg, etc., they are 1/4 the cost of the mfg's.
3rd - all these complaints about having to buy new printers, scanners, etc are hooey - do a search and update your drivers (free) on these - problem solved.
4th - I am a borderline technophobe and if I am able to accomplish this anyone can. HONEST STATEMENT
5th - Don't any of you recall the HUGE wop de do over XP when it came out? Now it's the hero and Vista is the new villian.
6th - Yes, Vista is a change, but after a few attempts it operates just fine - I actually LIKE it.
As I've stated before - Microsoft is not going to dump this platform - they have years invested in it, not to mention the $'.
SO - I'm happy with Vista, and look forward to the download of upgrades, service packs, and hotfixes - EVERYTHING WE DEALT WITH XP!!!!
Have a great day and learn to love your Vista......
All of the whiners downgrading their new machines are just setting themselves up for an upgrade headache down the road. Vista is great, I've got it going on two machines and couldn't be happier. It's a great improvement over XP and it is the way of the future. Microsoft and Software developers WILL code and develop for Vista and XP will be left behind like it or not.
I THINK UR A #^&$@ HEAD!!!!!!!!
I think you are exactly right as is the previous poster. Vista is just fine. The only "bug" I have found in five weeks of use is the "sleep" mode which affects the action of the scrolling wheel on the mouse when "waking" the computer up. Rebooting the computer fixes the problem and I tried it with both my wireless and wired mouses, so I know it has to be the problem. Other than that it has been bug free and highly intuitive.
rmissourimule, be sure to check Microsoft's download area for "vista reliability updates". I don't think they are being delivered via the Automatic update process, however I remember seeing a few that address problems the PC experiences when it "wakes up".
Myself, I've installed SEVERAL updates that did not deliver via Automatic Updates and my PC (64 Bit Vista Ultimate) runs beautifully. I haven't had a single problem for months.
BTW, some may want to call me ^&^%$(). But...the truth hurts, the cats out of the bag and there is no going back. Those who choose to move forward in the Microsoft world will choose Vista, those who don't can stay on XP or whatever old O/S you like and be left behind.
On a fresh install of XP SP2 there are nearly 100 updates. What a damn joke. When this PC dies I WILL move to Mac. Never have I known a system to drop files everywhere like a junkyard. Since owning a PC I have no free time- as it requires constant babysitting and maintenance. MS browser sucks, and their 2003 office suite has many flaws, only Media Player 11 is a program that I thinks is good and generally works.
And lastly if XP is not fixed still, how could Vista work out of the box, you need a quad core because of all the protection software required to keep it running.
That's odd, I have an AMD 64 Athlon and Vista works fine with it.
LIKE EXTREMELY SLOWLY!!! Everbody who likes vista, what in the heck are you doin with it for it to work just ever so perfectly for you?? Checkin your email then shutting it off?
I think you need to take the time to see what you have on your system. There are minimums you must have for Vista to work without slowing the system dowm. If you purchased a low or mid range pc or laptop you may have to increase your memory. If you upgraded and did not keep on top of your XP updates you will have problems. If you did not investigate and update drivers on all your printer, scanner, camera, etc., you will have problems. There is not one system, manufacturer, or software that is 100% perfect, if you know of one that has no complaints let all of us know..
If you have not bothered to do research on Vista you really have no right to come off with cheap one line zaps to folks who are NOT experiencing problems because they researched before the purchased or upgraded. From the posts, I have gathered the more pre planning the less problems. ie: I got just my husband a laptop w/ only 1GB - but since I knew it was packagwed with Vista premium I also ordered 2GB's of memory - hence - no problems or slow downs on his laptop, we installed the new added memory immediatly. ($52.00 and change - a cheap way to avoid problems, but we researched first!!)
You wouldn't (well I hope you wouldn't) jump into a brand new vehicle and drive off without giving yourself a quick tutorial on where and how everything that you have always used on your old car operates on the new one......
Systems are changing daily - if a change makes you uncomfortable stay where you are until it's obsolete - then you can play catch up or go back to an electric or manual typrwriter with carbon paper btw the sheets and the US mail.
Tell me im stupid again!!! Im a tech, HTML editor, Game editor, and music DJ. Every tech I know hates VISTA. IM not just talking about driver for printers and stuff. I cant get my editing programs running very fast at all. It goes so slow, on Xp I can have all my editors running at once, plus about 8 IExplorersm, Media player going all day long, and every single program still running with untold speed. LET ME SEE IT DONE WITH VISTA!!
I reread my message and no where do I find the word stupid.
But I do see the invitation for you to stay with the system you have.
So, Mr Techie, Master DJ, computer wiz, child prodigy of all things technical, your list was long and I may not have all of titles and job descriptions correct:
Do what you wish with your XP or Vista, but do not EVER assume words into my posts that are not there.
