So to answer the questions..

by steve749 - 5/1/07 10:22 AM In reply to: duh... by Hotshot12

1) Core 2 Duo is fast but there are various models with the T5300 being OK but there are better if you care to look on Intel's site for more details.

2) Upgrading the monitor is a personal preference I think.

3) I wouldn't do the RAM upgrade unless you know that it'll be worthwhile.

4) The hard drive difference is that the 100 GB has a faster spin rate which means more battery consumption but better performance for those that need it. My laptop has a 5400 RPM drive and is fine for me.

5) Are you sure you can upgrade the graphics card in that laptop separately? I believe some laptops don't have the ability to upgrade this just to warn you now.

Regards,
JB

The XPS machines are designed for gaming and will

play any game out there. I'm sure you don't want to spend 3000 to get all those lights but it's supposed to be one of the best gaming machines.

Wait

If you want to buy a Dell laptop, you should wait for the new line. Look at this french forum :

http://www.lesdelliens.com/puntal/

I don't know for you, but for me, buying a laptop when I know it will be replaced within maybe a month or two, I would not like this...

So wait, or go with the HP dv6500T or dv9500t which offers the new Satan-Rosa platform with a DirectX10 compatible graphics card.

Sorry but from my experience I would not buy a Dell. I have three Dell Dimension and all three are not working. Each died a few months after the warranty expired (year and few months). Also Dell has had problems with bad capacitors:

From having 3 dell desktops you can see I was a big Dell supporter. I used to recommend them to friends and family. But I will never do that I have looked bad whenever their computers have died. One of them was my sisters desktop. All the people I recommended Dells have now switched to other computers. I am sorry folks, Dells are not built the way they were in the past. You can go ahead and try it for yourself, but in my opinion and from my experience I will never buy anything from Dell.

I love those dead Dells.

I can't count how many I've pulled back to operation with simple things like "plugging in the cards" or "reinstalling the OS."

But you are right, today's support is much like you in 1920 and your Ford car.
