Flashy but not that innovative

by cr_buck - 11/26/07 6:29 AM In reply to: Poll: Time naming the iPhone "Invention of the year" by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

The IPhone is definitely cool looking and has a very flashy interface but I would not say groundbreaking. Yes they incorporated the visual voicemail and dualtouch but every new phone has one or two new features. Apple does a great job in styling and the wow factor but others have already been making all in one devices for a while. I have known businessmen who switched because it looked great only to realize that it didn't have the power and flexibility they had in their Windows Mobile Phone that came out almost 10 years ago and switched back.

Apple let others do the development of the concept and have the failures so they could learn without the risk. I would not consider that groundbreaking. Hindsite is always 20/20 and others were the ones who were innovative.

I will say it did hit the target market of avid music fans who want to minimize the amount of gadgets they carry. If it is innovative for anything it is the marketing research behind the device. The people knew the market they were targeting very well. It filled a niche for people who did not want the flexible but more technical interface of Windows Mobile and wanted and attractive basic all in one device.

Please: Put this thread to bed! Let's end the madness now!

by NoXious1 - 11/26/07 7:42 AM In reply to: Flashy but not that innovative by cr_buck

This thread has gone on long enough! I'm not about to look at TIME Magazine for any reason, let alone even think of buying an issue. I don't even look at it in Doctor/Dentist offices anymore.

Does TIME feature ads for apple iphones or other apple products? If they do; they are biased toward the advertisers that pay salaries. That's just common sense to keep generating revenue.

Common themes of this thread include: Who cares what TIME says anyways? How can TIME Magazine possibly be an authority on electronic devices? Who actually wants one? Others have been doing all these things for years. It's an innovation, not an invention. etc., etc., etc..

My point is this: It is just an INNOVATION; NOT an INVENTION! Apple should have made it with a 30, 60 or 80 GB hard drive if they wanted my money. Ipods have way bigger hard drives than the iphones have and the product is just shy of the mark in my books. Does it handle Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other docs like my other handhelds?

Wait a couple more years and the newest Innovations/Inventions will blow TIME off the news stands! The new stuff will rock for sure!

So again; LET'S PUT THIS THREAD TO BED!!!

Game changer yes, the invention of the year no

by Quemannn - 11/26/07 2:00 PM In reply to: Poll: Time naming the iPhone "Invention of the year" by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

It may well pose a shocking game changer to the old timer handset makers, but I wouldn't call it a great invention. Touchscreen has been there for over twenty years. Multitouch is something that had been awaited long, but the old timers didn't do the job since they were still happy making money enough.
Before the advent of iPhone, all the new features available on iPhone were already in the marketplace, like Korea. The fact is the US market is the largest but not the most advanced, when it comes to a mobile world.
It is sad the the fact is hidden or ignored in the US market.
People say the best feature iPhone has got is its bigger screen, but mobile devices can have a lot bigger screens than iPhone, if it can be permanently mounted in the center of vehicle dashboard.

Surface

by TechWire - 11/27/07 8:06 AM In reply to: Poll: Time naming the iPhone "Invention of the year" by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I think it is equal with PDAs. Microsoft made Surface which I think is just as inovative as the iPhone.

IPhone made the most news

by mike_mad_2010 - 11/27/07 10:02 PM In reply to: Poll: Time naming the iPhone "Invention of the year" by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Time "of the year" awards go to things/persons who made the most news. Not those which were best, most popular, ect. I don't recall hearing much "news" about any other cell phones. It was a knock down blow for Apple on this subject. By the way, its Time's magazine so they get to say.

BRAVO.... BRAVO!!

Time Mag was RIGHT ON!! Did anyone else hear so much news about any other product in 2007? NOT!! Apple was right on!

The iPhone rules the cell phone industry and when you can prove that another phone has better profits and grandeur, then speak up.

I bought 25 iPhones for my executive staff in my company. It works well and NO DROP CALLS either. AT&T cell service is GRAND!! You can try to bash them, but all your doing is making your self look ignorant.

The iPhone was the FINEST INVENTION since the Prius in the Car Industry...

BTW: All my employees - 120 of them own HyBrids. I made each one of them sign an agreement, which MADE them buy one no later than Dec 10th 2007... NO OTHER CAR ARE ALLOWED on our company lot other than HyBrids. GO GREEN PEOPLE and WAKE UP - SMELL those gas prices.... I laugh every time I go to the gas station. I dance around and whistle up a tune and watch the MORONS who don't have Hybrids fill their tanks up with their SAVINGS ACCOUNTS.... hahahahahaha!!!

Any ways! The iPhone RULES!!

There is NO OTHER PHONE BETTER!! Don't even go there with Microsoft 6 BS products...

Thanks

Happy Holidays

I'm OUT!

Invention?

by frankmf - 4/1/08 4:05 AM In reply to: Poll: Time naming the iPhone "Invention of the year" by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

It isn't an invention, it's a great piece of technology but not an invention.
