Norton AntiVirus
I ended up using both of these because for some strange reason one of them always manages to catch a virus or trojan that the other did not even notice! I am always on the Net and every now and then, one of the 2 anti-virus prgs will pop up a message that something being downloaded or even looked at is malware. Once in a blue moon, both prgs will pop up one after the other, but this is rare.
I use zone alarm by checkpoint.
AVG is a very good free anti-virus its protection is on par with the commercial ones and yet less CPU intensive but I like the fact that it updates regularly with definitions where the retail versions seen to be slow at doing so. I guess the other thing that’s upsetting is that the retail brands want $20.00 to $50.00 dollars a year for there anti-virus software. I have been running AVG for some years now and I'm well pleased with it. I can't see why anyone spends money these days for NORTON or Panda and so on and not get any thing better.....
I´m satisfied with Spyware Doctor with Antivirus
I'll try many ,and for me the 2 best are F-secure and ESET smart security
Does MBR scanning
AVAST Anti-virus is, without a doubt, the best I've ever used and I've used all of those listed plus others, at one time or another, except NOD32.
The "Providers" (Shields) that may or may not be activated at the user's discretion through the On-Access Scanner are a real plus and they do not slow down PC performance, at least not enough that you'd ever really notice.
And yes, it's free!
After installing AVAST Anti-virus, COMODO Firewall, & COMODO BOClean (all are free!) plus a dLink NAT Router (dL-604), I've had ZERO problems and the hiccups that do get through the first lines of defense, AVAST has caught in a timely way - no damage done.
I switched to AVG from years of Norton because AVG is free and Norton does not work on Win Pro 64 bit. I used to run win xp but switched to pro 64 bit when I built my own great gaming computer
Im choose AVG coz it's easy and always free update download.
I use (Webroot)
I have used it for two years and it runs in the back ground and seems to do its job flawlessly. It has worked for me so I will keep it. Also have
H A V. installed.

Zone Alarm - Because it is integrated with ZoneAlarm Security Suite,
and I like ZoneAlarm.
I have been using the AT&T internet security suite (previously known as BellSouth). It seems to work well and the cost is comparable to the top tier products out there.
Thanks for interesting mail every week. I have Avast V.4.7 Home Edition on my PC which was suggested to me by our local Comp shop. I do not know if this antivirus utility is protection enough, as I am running a small business from home and use internet a lot. I would appreciate it if you could make any suggestions. I have Windows XP Professional
Thanks
Cecile
Cecile,
Avast is excellent for anti-virus just as well as Antivir. Both are ICSA certified. For additional protection i use Comodo firewall. i use other tools like spybot search and destroy, advanced windows care, regseeker, winpatrol, ccleaner, spyware terminator. They all have their value and together they help keep the machine pretty clean. It is amazing how much any single one program does not do and the need for multiple programs to cover the spread of issues and problems that occur on your system under windows, which is why i recommend and use Linux as much as possible.
