Listen to the mindless drival being spoken into cell phones in business class prior to departure and you will NEVER want cell phone use allowed during flight.
They should be allowed along with crack and heroin.
I think we need to know if by using a cell phone on the areoplane, if it does in fact interfere with the electronics or not.... it's a bit like saying that we can't use a cell phone in a petrol station, but it is okay if you are on hands free... I wish to hell we knew the truth, 'is it out there'
Cell phones should not be allowed in any public place. I can never figure out if the guy behind me is just talking on his cell or if he has totally flipped his lid and may be dangerous!
Some people don't care about how their behaviour affects others around them. They talk loud and laugh as if everyone wants to hear them and have their phones ring until someone else needs to pick it up for them. It's much better to prohibit the use of cellphones entirely than to deal with making dumb people understand complicated rules on how to use cellphones on a plane.
If someone's travelling on business or work and they really need to be in touch, they can use their credit card and the seat's phone facilities to call.
No, to cell phones on planes; reasong being that no one will respect other people, instead you will end having to listen to eveyrones personnel life, work life while riding onboard the plane, with no place to hide. The plane is a nice quiet place to escape the day to day rut of such conversations that take place on the ground. How often in your day must you be forced to listen to other peoples phone conversations, with them talking about very personnel information, or speaking so loud they might as well be yelling at you. Please folks, don't you think for one minute these sort of persons won't be on the same plane with you, boring you to death for hours at end with their phone conversations about work or their personnel life, that I don't want to listen too!!!
Bottom line, some people are too stupid or too ignorant to respect anyone else near them, disturbing whomever is in the area, and not caring a single bit!!
NO to cell phones on planes!!
Some people tend to shout into their phones and use language that
other people don't like to hear. Freedom of speach is great but Society speach in a must. Or we can just do what ever we want to also, "like punch them out Hey!" You Have to have society rules or we will have major problems soon.

There is no threat what-so-ever of a cell phones signal to the aircraft electronics or instruments. All the talk of this is mumble jumble and the truth needs to be spoken.
I have over 28 years of electronic communications experience and training. I am courious as to what people think of this topic and I am willing to discuss it as well with everyone.
Why not, but have rules so it won't bother others, in such a closed space. Flying is frustrating enough without listening to others conversations let alone some quite annoying ring tones. Vib only please and have them all sit together, let them bother each other.
Those folks that carry the nuclear fooballs are the only people that might need an airborn phone. The nuclear football is carried just behind the President and carrys the nuclear launch codes for World War Three. The Brits and Ruskys launch on rumor so they don't need one. ( Thanks to G. Bush. )
Zero other people have any reason at all to carry a phone at all !!!

There's some evidence that cell phone use may affect navigation instruments during a crucial IFR landing, but it hasn't been definitively proven.
(IFR = Instrument Flight Rules. i.e. you can't see the runway (dark or bad weather) so you have to rely on your instruments to guide you to the runway.)
Yes I am adamantly opposed to cell phones on planes , in supermarkets..Really you can surely leave home for a short time without contacting earth.
In case those making the call are not aware...the rest of the world does not care about your lovelife, goods in the pantry.
Get a life!!!
Just sit in your seat, read or take a nap. Eat or drink if you have to, but don't bother me with any kind of conversation, or noise at all. Listening to other people's conversation, or movies or whatever is as bad as second hand smoke.
In a world of Political Correctness where we as a society have turned into a bunch of milk toast sissies I am already frustrated about the rude behavior of the present social order. Can't hurt someone's feelings by telling them to shut up can we?
I don't want to listen to a snot nose kid or a yapping person yelling into their cell phone while I'm using the few precious hours of semi private time to mentally unwind or study.
The loud obnoxious behavior in the theaters and other social settings is already intolerable, now we want to turn them loose on a plane....only if I have control of the ejection seat button.....so when that nasty gansta, Britney ring tone comes on badah-bing...outtah there.....lol.....
Can you imagine being stuck in the middle of 3 seats between two people talking almost non stop for hours on a plane. It would be enough to give me air rage.
