Plasma vs. LCD

by edrizzo - 11/15/07 6:00 AM

First off I'd like to say that this was supposed to be a discussion about Plasma vs. LCD. Over 70% of the posts were about everything but!!. In my judgement, use your eyes!! Look at a Plasma and LCD straight on. Both look very similar. Now, strart moving to the sides. LCD just starts fading and Plasma, still crystal clear.
If you have the perfect viewing area where you sit stright at the screen, than I think they are both exceptional. If you have a normal living room like the rest of us and have chairs on the side of the room, Plasma is the only way to go.

As for price, lately, both Plasma and LCD are getting closer to each other.

Hey, have a great day

LCD's do have a viewing angle problem, in that, if you look at it in any other way besides straight on, the image looks weird. Trust me, its actually gotten better as of recently.

Plasma screens do not have to deal with the viewing angle problem, however, they have one of their own: its called plasma half-life. After so long, the plasma will lose brightness, permanently.

a couple of things in plasma's favor

I'm new to this, but FWIW. I've seen a couple of things in plasmas favor. One is the viewing angle issues mentioned. The other is smoothness. Viewed straight-on from a good HD source comparable plasma/lcd are both good. But viewing them with an SD or even just less-than-perfect HD source (which is the norm), the plasma just looks smoother and seems to react better. In less-than-perfect conditions, LCD seems harsher and choppier to me. But we each see things a little differently, its very subjective.
