Upconvert sd to hd
by KonradBerry - 11/17/07 8:45 PMWhat does one need to upconvert standard 480i TV signal to 720p, if the signal is coming in on a coaxial cable? The TV would something like say a Samsung HTP4254. Is there a device that I could run the coax in and get great picture out? Thanks

Scaling to 720p or 1080i

That's why it typically looks crummy on the TV because it's taking 480i and trying to add content to create 720p or 1080i. If you subscribe to HD programming from either cable or satellite, then the converter box will do the scaling. I have my cable box set to "Pass-Through" to let my TV do the scaling instead.

I'm new to this, but I read a review of an Oppo DVD player that everyone seems to say does a credible job of upscaling/upconverting (if those are the right terms). That sounds good, but if that can be done, with sd dvds, it just seems to me that it could be done with a sd cable signal. At least I was hoping that it could be done. I've got the Samsung HPT4254 plasma 720p resolution TV, if that makes any difference. The picture is great from HD source, but it could be better w/ SD source, smooth but a little noisy. Any thoughts, anyone? Thanks.
