HD DVD or Blu-ray on an HD TV that only goes up to 1080i

by Faztang - 11/19/07 12:24 PM

I have a 2006 model Panasonic Plasma HD TV. It plays 720p and 1080i but does not have 1080p which seems to be the resolution of both HD DVD and Blu-ray. My question is what kind of picture will I get on my TV if I bought an HD or Blu-ray DVD player? Will it be better than a standard DVD player, will it even play at all?

Thanks!

Your TV will play the 1080p content just fine. You, and most people, wouldn't see any difference when the 1080p is displayed at 1080i. The only difference you might see is if your TV had a dedicated input specifically made for 1080p/24fps/120Hz and you were watching a DVD that had 1080p/24fps content. But even then, you might not see any difference.

My Toshiba d.l.p. cleims it will do 1080P ? But when I compare my 1080I picture from Dish Network using h.d.m.I Vs my Sonjy Blue Ray player I see mabey 5% better picture quality but were talking about a 72" screen on any smaller screen there would be no difference happy day steweee
