Just saw the 3D remake of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3D and I was wondering what you all think of this up and coming tech? From what I hear all the studios are banking on it to keep theater attendance up in the face of higher ticket prices, the short span between theater and home movie releases and HDTV penetration getting massive.
My take? It might work, after dawning the clear 3D glasses the film certainly look better and more round'ish, but its a far cry from the in your face 3D effects I was expecting (and you find at theme parks). And maybe thats a good thing. It makes me really want to experience movies like transformers in this kind of formate...and I think I just proved their hopes might be a little more successful then even I want to admit. But we shall see.
PS: All that said, iMax 3D is still #1! But for the unclean masses, this is a good runner up.
