i INSTALLED wUBI 7.10 aLPHA

Wubi 7.10 alpha gives me a error "File not found" but i resolved it.
when error "file not found" appears, hit enter, then c to go to command prompt type 'root' into the command prompt, you should see something like hd(0,1) or whatever...
Edit c:\ubuntu\disks\boot\grub\menu.lst (I booted back into Windows and used a text editor), change all instances of hd0,0 to whatever you saw on the earlier command prompt (eg hd0,5)
Reboot and it should work... unless it doesn't, then it won't. Worked for me though.

tell me the advantage/s of wubi over live-cd?

Post 8 of 14

Wubi is not LIveCD

by sreejithr - 10/28/07 9:20 PM In reply to: Ok, since you people have got wubi to work, by ahtoi

remeber...wubi is not stable for 7.10, but it is stable for 7.04

Wubi is bacically a linux installer except it uses virtual hard drive and is installed through windows...it is safer than installing linux itself because if u make a mistake in linux, you can easily uninstall it. but if windows crashes...wubi is gone...

with live CD u cant store anything, but with wubi you can. You can install softwares and everything just like if u were using linux itself...

Note: Wubi is a Ubuntu Linux installer...there are many other ones like it for other linux brands. Wubi is just one of them...

I had some idea as to what it is,

by ahtoi - 10/29/07 7:38 AM In reply to: Wubi is not LIveCD by sreejithr

it's just that I have tried 4 times now to installed it but was unseccessful.

Anyway, what's involve in switch OS? Is it a matter of just closing an linux application and click on an MS application? What I want to know is..does windows switch off?

I remember back in the days of BEOS, beos sits on windows as an application but when I click on beos, windows actually switch off. So I am just curious.

If you mean

switching between Windows and Linux, you must shut down and restart to get to one another or run a VM.

Hi Sreejithr;
Thanks for your statements, I am enlightened by them, so many thanks. Here is what you said and my questioning of it:
"Note: Wubi is a Ubuntu Linux installer...there are many other ones like it for other linux brands. Wubi is just one of them..."
I am very interested in that statement. Can you lead me to the whole set of Wubi contingents, like other Linux dists presented Wubi fashion? Second, i have tried to install Wubi twice and I never got to square one, it failed each time. And WAS BLOATED. Should it be exceedingly bloated? I went into search and must have found forty files, all kinds of articles, and so forth, when I put Wubi into search.
So what am I doing wrong--can we have a dialogg, please?
Well, anyway, many thanks for what I read and I look forward to hearing from you if possible!
Best!
Robb

<a href="http://www.pcmech.com/article/wubi-installer-on-ubuntu-710-distro/">http://www.pcmech.com/article/wubi-installer-on-ubuntu-710-distro/</a>

This is some weird stuff. Like the guy that posted the directory, it's at least in progress. Hopefully some news will come out soon.
