My neighbor across the parking lot and I share his wireless using my router, a linksys wrt54k. I have a linksys USB adapter that currently gets between 1-2 bars (about -63 dBm). One of the problems is that I live in apartments and about 10 other networks using channels 1 ,6 and 11. It's getting crowded.
My question is what's the best method to get a strong signal? I would guess that upgrading to wireless N would help but would two homemade cantennas be cheaper and better? Should I change routers to one that supports aftermarket antennas? Thoughts please?
There are many web pages on how to make your own parabolic reflector from cardboard, tin foil and tape. You have just the right USB WIFI dongle to make this happen. Now you only need to raid the kitchen.
