Poll: How do you refill your printer ink/toner?

by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator - 10/26/07 10:29 AM

How do you refill your printer ink/toner?

I buy ink cartridges/toner made by my printer manufacturer. (Why not other methods?)

I buy off-brand ink/toner cartridges that are compatible with my printer. (How has that worked out?)

I use refillable ink/toner cartridges and refill them myself. (How has that worked out?)

Other (Please tell us what it is.)

I purchase Ink Cartridges for 2 two Lexmark Printers

by pannew - 10/26/07 11:19 AM In reply to: Poll: How do you refill your printer ink/toner? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

These Ink Cartridges are very expensive, close to $40.00 ea. And I do like to print out items/issues that are important to me. However, I purchased [online] off-brand cartridges that were advertised as compatible with Lexmark but I ran out of ink very shortly after installing them. Also, the quality was not even comparable to the Lexmark Ink. So I guess I will continue to purchase cartridges made by the Lexmark manufacturer and continue to complain re the price. But, Hey, I'm open to suggestions. Thank you, Peggy

I have trtied just about every way there is to refill ink cartridges.
I have also had them refilled by so called pofessionals.
I have foynd that the cartriges that are supplied by the printer maanufacturers work best and give me a better quality print of a phot than off brands.
Alsp, oif, youu are printing phots do not use cheap paper.
The quality of your photos will be compromised.

I buy all my ink online at Carrot Ink. They have the absolute best prices and quality ink. I have a Lexmark All in one and an HP PhotoSmart printers. I have never had a bad experience with the ink I get at Carrot Ink.

I appreciate your help. And I did find out recently re the better quality paper. It indeed makes a difference. I now use the HP Bright White Inkjet Paper and it does outperform the ordinary paper. I hope more people become aware of this difference. Thanks again, Clayton

Check your local WalGreens online, & see if they have the re-fill program. Read my post, I'm sold.

Cartridge refills

by azwhall - 10/26/07 5:53 PM In reply to: I purchase Ink Cartridges for 2 two Lexmark Printers by pannew

I live in Gilbert, Arizona. The Walgreens Store about 2 miles from my house started refilling inkjet cartridges in Feburary. The cost $10 for Black and $15 for color. You might want to check Walgreens in your area to see if they have the same service.

printer ink

by prickety - 10/27/07 3:52 PM In reply to: I purchase Ink Cartridges for 2 two Lexmark Printers by pannew

I had a Lexmark printer . I bought a refill kit ( that gets you the hardware ) I then went to a real locale print shop and asked if I could buy some comparable ink . They had some but wanted me to buy a 45 gallon barrel of it . After I bled some mighty tears at the guy he surrendered and let me buy 4 oz . It was a little pricey ( I think the 4 oz were $40 ) I still have some ink left and am using it on another printer I bought ( It's been almosy 6 years now )
When you do the refill make sure your desk is well protected ie an old plastic table cloth or such and a couple of layers of news paper .
Make sure you have rubber gloves ( not the kitchen kind , hit your thumb with a hammer and go to the hospital , they have lots , don't feel bad you paid for them )and some kind of plastic apron to wear .
set your cartrages on a rag ( nothing to absorbant or fluffy and fill er up . Turn the cartrages upside down so the print head is facing up for a few minutes and then face down and move the cartrage around on the rag till the big blotches have subsided and then replace the cartrages . Don't touch any contactors or you might be buying a new printer . Print up a couple of pages until it looks good . Some TLC and patients and you'll have great print jobs and those 4 oz of ink will last along time .

You can get dye ink for a lot less than $40 for 4 ounces!

by PolymorphDigital - 10/28/07 9:25 AM In reply to: printer ink by prickety

Dye ink online is a lot cheaper than $40 for 4 ounces! That's what it cost for 4 ounces of pigmented ink, caveat that it is only for an Epson.

Inksupply dot com has inks and refilling hardware for very good prices. You could have had 4 ounces of ink for Lexmark for $10.

How do I buy ink.

by cmccarle2000 - 10/26/07 4:49 PM In reply to: Poll: How do you refill your printer ink/toner? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have an epson stylus photo RX620 and this thing eat ink (6 ink cartridges) and I don't use it that much, only to print B/W emails but, the 5 color cartridges go down also. The Color inks are 13.99 dollars each and the B/W one is 20.00 dollars plus. I will buy a new printer before I buy ink for any Epson Printer.

Use Draft Print Mode to save ink

by retexan599 - 10/26/07 6:26 PM In reply to: guzzling ink by tedtks

Unless I really need a high quality printed page, I use the Draft mode(s) for printing almost everything (Word, web pages, etc.). This saves me a bunch of ink.
