defragment tool vista home premium

by hartlanders - 10/17/07 6:07 AM

I have had this computer for 8 months.
any time i click to defrag the computer
it goes to analyze, the message says your
file system performance is good, you do not
need to defragment at this time.
Can this be possible after 8 months of use?
Thanks,Edward

Edward, I dunno...

Mine is the same so I defrag from time to time just to please my own peace of mind. Seems odd to me but I think newer systems require less frequent defrags.

IMHO!

I am thinking Vista will never say a defrag is needed... I wonder if it is functional. Vista is strange in many ways and I have lots of issues that remain unsolved. Maybe SP-1 when released next year will fix some of this. Hope so!

Best of luck,

Glenn

try a free trial of a defrag program like..

by bklynrickel - 10/17/07 1:33 PM In reply to: re: defrag by glenn30

ashampoo magical defrag or disktrix to see about defragmenting your hard drive. i use ashampoo and it works great for me in the background. i don't have to do anything. it's automatic. go to download.com and take a look.

automatic defrag

by SerengetiValley - 10/19/07 9:39 AM In reply to: try a free trial of a defrag program like.. by bklynrickel

I personally like automatic defrag over scheduling or manually defragging a drive because there is no guesswork involved. The drive is defragmented by the defragger in the background only when required, and automatically too! Quite convenient.

task scheduler

by Dango517 - 10/18/07 1:28 AM In reply to: defragment tool vista home premium by hartlanders

set it up here and forget it. You'll find task scheduler very different in Vista. I'd suggest every 30 hours of use for a defragmentation. Good maintenance means good smooth computer operation, some disagree.(This thread is not tracked)

vista defrag

Try using IObit smart defrag, this is very good, windows defrag suggested that mine did not need a defrag, this programme took quite a while to defrag the system. This tends to show that windows could be better.

(NT) IObit is very good, ditto

Depends

by Frost7331 - 10/21/07 6:28 AM In reply to: defragment tool vista home premium by hartlanders

Well,it depends,on how much stuff you download,install,etc.
I do this alot, and sometimes I can get around 512 megs to 10 gigs to be fragmented.Saying it doesn't need a defragment has to mean that it is doing it in the background, furthuring your slowdown of system resources.
