I have done some research on this site in my efforts to find a good price on an 87 or 89 series 61" Samsung LED DLP. I have come up with some disturbing finds and wanted to share them and also here from anyone with first hand experience. First off the site uses the old CNET certified merchant logo, apparently in an effort to thwart CNET from threatening them and making them take it down. I am assuming that this is somehow "legal" and that CNET wishes but can't do anything about it. Also on sites such as nextag, pricegrabber, epinions, etc there are numerous long winded responses about how terrible and fraudulent this website is. Curiously however the average ratings for ValuePlasma.com is always high on these sites. How? you may ask. Well apparently there are hundreds and hundreds of one line responses such as "great store, service, price" that all give the store a 5 Star rating. At first I thought well that makes sense because a happy customer would write just that - something short. But then I noticed ALL of the positive posts are made during normal business hours M-F 9-5. Thus making it apparent that the company is having an employee create usernames and continually review itself as a great company.
This of course is just online research, and so I ask that anyone who has actually used this site please come forward and offer some insite to protect CNet lovers from making a mistake that I almost did.
Note: Using the old adage "if it's too good to be true it probably is" I have chosen to stay away from ValuePlasma.com and go with electroniqueplus.com.
Yeah, there are definitely still scam sites that sell electronics. Someone on this site said that they knew of someone that ordered a plasma HDTV from some hole-in-the-wall online dealer and when he got his box it was filled with sand!
When I order electronics online I pay the extra price and go with crutchfield, vanns, or even JR. Saving money means little if you are worried to death about having to deal with terrible customer service.
I had a headache of a time the past two weeks trying to figure this out. I actually JUST got off the phone with thehighdefinitionstore.com and bought the Samsung 6187s (dont need the 6189s) and couldnt be happier. 2275 total. Reliable place. I know my TV is coming and I know that I got the best price from the Authorized Dealers. I checked all of them out and this place had the best price. If you want an LED DLP go get it here. Email me if you have questions or just post here, I'll save you the 2 weeks I wasted.
ValuePlasma:
The fact that my TV has not shipped five days after I have ordered it despite the fact that your site states that it usually ships within 24-48 hours coupled with your scamming “strong-arm” up-sell approach has made me lose faith in your ability to deliver the New Sharp TV as advertised. Thus cancel my order.
The above is what I sent to ValuePlasma. They have been giving me the run around for the entire week. Trying to up sell me every time I spoke to them. After my order was placed no one contacted me for three days. I called to make certain my TV had shipped and then the "real pitch" began. Insurance, delivery extras, cables etc. etc. all to try to gain more $$$. Salesman said I had to pay 3% additional for handling but that was a "good" deal as some have to pay up to 6% because they don't live in as good an area.
Here are the facts:
I ordered a Sharp 52 inch TV. I ordered by telephone because I read poor reviews here and wanted to see if the salesman by phone could gain my trust. He did, thus I ordered. Told me the TV would likely ship by Wednesday. I sent the above email today Friday as nothing has shipped.
A rep. contacted me said: It will arrive in two days. I pressed further as I was told the same earlier in the week. He then said, we don't have them in stock as they were damaged by Sharp prior to their receipt. Sound familiar? (This is what they told another reviewer that they had damaged product). I will contact Sharp and post a follow up. He told me the employee "Steve" would be fired today for his up sell attempts. I do not believe this at all.
He said if I didn't write a negative review he would send me a free HDMI cable. Wow...these guys think they can resolve the scam after complaint with a HDMI cable.
STAY AWAY! THE WORST! BEWARE! HORRIBLE!
PS He tried to get me to buy from Dr. Plasma gave me the number of 866-467-5276...I wonder if this company is owned by the same!?
Gee what makes you think that.... ![]()
HOWEVER THERE ARE MANY VERY GOOD AND RELIABLE STORES OUT THERE!!!
In no particular order: VANN'S of Montana, J & R, CRUTCHFIELDS, B+H PHOTO, ONE CALL, VISUAL APEX, TWEETER, and, of course BBY and CC. These stores all have brick and mortar retail sites. I'd feel better if ABE'S of MAINE wasn't located in New Jersey!, well anyway, I always order over the phone, so that I'm speaking with an actual person, a name that can refer to....if there is a problem.
There are other great retailers out there!!! Do your homework and you'll be able to identify a poor or SCAM E-tailer right off the bat.
Only one of the above mentioned store ever tried to UP-SELL me. That was TWEETER; wanted to sell me an extended warranty.......I simply said what I always say when OFFERED one; "If I thought it was going to break down, I wouldn't be buying it the first place!"
Best advice 'BUYER BEWARE' and 'IF it sounds too good to be true, it probably IS!!!
Shopping wisdom to all,
Riverledge.
I went to buy the TV from amazon but I think they are just broking it for 6th Avenue Electronics...has anyone heard of them?
No big deal that they di some selling through Amazon. Many firms do.
To give credit where credit is due, 6th Ave Electronics is a fine online as well as brick & mortar merchant. Their credentials are easily found. They have a near the absolute top positive customer feedback rating on ReSellerRatings.com.
I too had the same experience with GoBuyDigital.com. I ordered a 42" LCD Sharp Aquos TV. I called them right away to confirm my order and the salesman gave me the same pitches trying to add more $$$ on to the order and even added an extra HIP 8%(handling) fee that I was unaware of. He told me that the advertised FREE SHIPPING was only curbside delivery and that it would not gaurantee me actually receiving the TV, nor was there a tracking number, so I had to agree to a shipping fee of an extra $150. Then he wanted to sell me an HDMI calbe for $120!!
I called back twice, a week apart trying to get information on when the TV would ship. Both times, different agents told me that it would be shipping out today. Total FRAUD!! I then told them to stop my shipment and that I was going to call my Credit Card company to dispute the charge. I have since done that.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! EVER!!!
I found myself in the exact same situation you stated with GoBuyDigital. And thanks to your post I decided to call my Credit Card company and dispute the charge like you did yourself.
But I would like to do more than that in order to help the community.
I found a report of BBB (Better Business Bureau) about ValuePlasma. But nothing about GoBuyDigital.
My question is: when you say "same company" do you mean "these people are the same kind of crook" or do you mean these 2 company are owned and managed buy the same owners ?
If you want to buy any tv online with any brands, call the manufacturer and some of them will actually go to that website and check for you. That's what I did with my Harman Kardon home theater.
We bought a Sharp 37" 1080p tv advertised as brand new on their web site and nearly 2 weeks later received one that was refurbished. They lied their butts off telling us it wasn't really refurbished even though the box clearly says so. Then they tried to sell it to us cheaper figuring we'd keep it once we had it. Now they're kying to us again, promising to send us mailing labels "in a few mimutes" and promidsing to come pick it up and never doing it. We're about to dispute it to our credit card company and see if ValuePlasma wants it back if they aren't getting paid for it. They're totally a scam company! Don't do business with them at any cost.
WOW I don't know where to start about how bad gobuydigial.com and valueplasma.com are!!! It is the same company under both websites.
I ordered the a 42 inch Sharp Aquos 32D62U model for 1078.99 as it was the best price on the web. Other stores had that same television for 1300-1700 without shipping included. the $1078.99 was with FREE SHIPPING. I was sold and ECSTATIC!! I ordered on the 17th of October and got no feedback or emails on when the order was going to go through or if It was sent. The website kept the status at "new" for three days.
This is why I am beyond pissed. This guy calls from the "confirmation department" to confirm my order. During the confirmation process he explains to me that the 10-14 day shipping included NO SIGNATURE... Once again I repeat no SIGNATURE. I ask him to clarify what that means exactly and it basically means as I stated. Supposedly, the carrier that delivers the TVs for them can just drop it off in front of your door for the anyone to steal. The guy tries to upsell me on getting shipping for 229 then 179 then 149. I wouldn't budge either way and he was very rude on the phone to me telling me. "Look Buddy, I'm not here to debate with you or convince you.. It is your choice either way" I politely tell him, " It's ok then.. since the order isn't even processed as you are confirming the order now over the phone please cancel it or don't even put it through."
HIS RESPONSE!!!! " I'm going to put the order through right now and you will be receiving an email of the confirmation in less than minute" I ask him why and he repeats to me he is going to send it out. I tel him again, " I don't want it!!!! Why are you going to put it through? I didn't know about this shipping that was supposedly free turning into.. I must have the 149 shipping now"
He tells me, "This way we can send it out and then you can refuse it and pay the 20% restocking fee" At this point I am so ******** furious it is sick. I explain that I am going to dispute this charge and he is basically giving me horrible service and merely putting the order through to SPITE ME AND STEAL 20% of the cost of the tv WHEN THE ORDER DIDN"T EVEN GO THROUGH YET.. WHAT THE HELL?
These guys are a scam!!! NEVER EVER buy from gobuydigital.com or valueplasma. THE SCUM OF THE EARTH!!!!!
(I'm glad I blew some of that steam off. The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life)
I can confirm the dubious trade practices of this company. I bought a Sharp 46" TV from them, they deducted the money from my credit card and now they will not answer questions or give any delivery date.
One guy called me trying to sell me a waranty for $600.00 and argued with me when I told him no. He final said we will send to you for $1500.00 which they charged to my card. since then have not had one word from them and no answer to email at their address info@valueplasma.com definitely do not buy from these people.
No morals, just cheek.
Ronald Coupe.
I ordered a Sharp LCD TV from Gobuydigital.com because their price is lowest I can find. When I placed the order, the webpage shows $900. Then a guy called me to confirm the order and he told me he will charge additional $100 for insurance. I told him if so I don't need it. Then that guy said fine, but I will have to pay 20% restocking fee! This website is cheating! Don't buy from them. I called them and emailed them later to dispute but they never reply me. Now I am going to see them in the court.
