Anybody buy an AT&T Tilt?

by merrybrown - 10/6/07 12:27 PM

Wondering how it compares to the iPhone. Looks bulky but has some interesting features.

So why were the stores all sold out then?

I'm getting mine today

by ozyman4269 - 10/8/07 9:08 PM In reply to: Anybody buy an AT&T Tilt? by merrybrown

I'm getting mine today, I'm getting mine today!

except that I'm getting the HTC TyTN II (Living in Asia) so I'll have a camera on the front of mine and be able to make video calls and it will be unlocked and I'll tell you more about it when I get it later today I'm so psyched!
My aging Sony-Erisson P910i is slowly biting the dust so I'm happy this new phone is coming out.

That's the one.

I'm on T-Mobile so I'd need an unlocked one. I like what I see on this phone. It's a race though. Unlocked HTC verses the Sony P1a...

by mikevm71 - 2/9/08 9:01 AM In reply to: I'm getting mine today by ozyman4269

I am in Afghanistan and travel between here and home alot, I would need an unlocked version of the TILT. Anyone have experience with this? I am fairly new to the whole SMARTPHONE thing and am excited about its possibilities. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Get the HTC TyTN II

by ozyman4269 - 2/10/08 7:44 AM In reply to: Unlocked Tilt? by mikevm71

HTC is the manufacturer of the AT&T tilt and AT&T just re-brands it for their line and sells it locked.

I asume you travel over seas and if so 9or passing through Asia) you can pick up the HTC TyTN II out here (HK, Singapore, BKK)

If passing through Europ look for the Euro branded model of the same phone

# HTC TyTN II (MSM7200), also known as:

* HTC Kaiser
* T-Mobile MDA Vario III
* AT&T Tilt
* Vodafone v1615

Generally if sold out side of the US it's unlocked.

Back in the US if you want to use it with a US Carrier your GSM choices are AT&T/Cingular and T-mobile.
*Note Verison has claimed that it's opening up its network to any device that a customer wants to use on it (according to story out of Buzz Out Loud) i don't know if they have done so yet or only plan too so you might want to check with them if they're your choice for a provider*

I know it will work for sure with AT&T or T-mobile. Every time I go to the states for an extended period of time I get a local Pre-paid sim card (T-mobile usually) and save on calls.

Can you do your regular e-mail on the tilt?
Or do you have to do it through your internet connection?

Tilt after Three weeks + vs iPhone

by spokanedj - 11/17/07 11:48 AM In reply to: Anybody buy an AT&T Tilt? by merrybrown

I have had my Tilt for three weeks now. Being a long time SMT5600, 2125, 8125 Customer (and plus my best friend working for Cingular) I've had access to all the WM phones and the iPhone. Hands down, the iPhone is the best consumer/glam "candy" phone.

However, compared to "real life" use, I don't think the iPhone can really hold up to the Tilt, beyond the interface/screen and "cool" factor. The Tilt runs circles around it in every other category, especially when you get into the business and advanced user side of things. Plus the

Yes, the Tilt, like am WM5/6 phones support IMAP4 and POP3 email accounts, so you can read/send email through the phone. You can connect either with wifi or a data plan, including 3G, which the iPhone doesn't have yet.

Being in a less "technology" area, I get all the time "hey, is that an iPhone". I just reply, nah, this is much better than an iPhone.

Yeep!

by lookitsbs - 12/15/07 6:01 PM In reply to: Anybody buy an AT&T Tilt? by merrybrown

My boyfriend works for AT&T and he's sort of a cellphone junkie. I have no use for a PDA, but I was convinced to buy one anyway, because it was simply "the best phone available" It's very very cool, but it has way too many features I don't use. So if you simply call and text, the Tilt isn't for you. It also has questionable connectivity... it drops calls like a mother. So I'll be replacing it to see if the cell phone itself is defective. Otherwise it's amazing! I have tiny fingers so I don't need to use the stylus. So to me it's like an iPhone with windows mobile and a keyboard. =]

Much better than the i-phone!!!!!!!!

by Lilyluvsthesouth - 1/8/08 1:31 PM In reply to: Anybody buy an AT&T Tilt? by merrybrown

I did some pretty heavy duty comparison between the i-phone and the tilt. The Tilt offer SO much more. First of all the i-phone did not get good ratings on the battery. Once the battery needs replacing (about 400 charges) you have to send the i-phone into Apple (now you're without a phone)and they charge you 79.95 for a new batter plus s/h. You can't replace it yourself. The screen is also glass instead of plastic...one drop and it could shatter! I really like the Tilt. I love the features and the 3.0 camera as opposed to the 2.0 on the i-phone. Does the i-phone look better? Sure it does, but the features are no comparison. I really wanted the i-phone but after my research between the two, I went with the Tilt. If you pick the Tilt, you'll be glad you did!

AT&T Tilt's dark secret

by dsatow - 1/25/08 5:54 PM In reply to: Much better than the i-phone!!!!!!!! by Lilyluvsthesouth

AT&T Tilt has a video driver issue. Please see htcclassaction.org and thier video comparisons.

I don't have any problems

by Lilyluvsthesouth - 1/26/08 8:26 AM In reply to: AT&T Tilt's dark secret by dsatow

I did check out htcclassaction.org and I never had any of those problems at all. If fact, when I added my 2G memory card, it runs faster than ever! I really had no problems with the Tilt being sluggish but I wanted more memory for the phone. I guess I just got one of the good ones!

possible poor battery performance

by snowtracks - 1/28/08 6:49 AM In reply to: Anybody buy an AT&T Tilt? by merrybrown

I just purchased a tilt. I am seeing very poor battery performance between charges. For instance, last night, before going to bed, I left the device fully charged and in standby mode--ready to receive a call, but the screen is blank.

When I awoke this morning, the device was completely off (unable to receive a call) and could not be started unless I plugged it into the wall.

When the device finally re-started, the battery was 0% charged.

Is it possible that having the tilt connected to my wifi causes much higher battery consumption?

Thanks,
Doug
