Are you considering a 1080p HDTV?
Yes. (What's your reason?)
No. (Why not?)
Undecided. (What's holding you back?)
I'm already a proud 1080p HDTV owner. (How is it?)
I have no idea what in the world you are talking about. (Click here to find out what it is.)
for my old rptv to die, otherwise I have to pay for a complete redecorating of the house before I can buy one!!
If my old workhorse Toshiba RPTV ever gives up, then I will need a new TV. At that time, why get anything other than a 1080p?...unless of course the resolution has been bumped up by that time to something like 2084p.
I only need a 42 inch TV and I set about 8 feet away from the TV so I dont really care if it has 1080P are not, but if the TV model I pick out is 1080p so be it.
1080p will not be a picture quality stat I am looking for in a TV.
I bought the Pinnacle HD-TV pro stick for my laptop, and it will not work. and the HD tv's I have seen the picture keeps stopping and turn into square pieces.
I'll wait for some time also for the price to come down to a reasonable amount.

Sony 50a2000 for 6-7 months, now.
Working fine, just wish I got the 55" or 60", but that will be for the next time when I upgrade in about 3 years. There was a $600 price diffrence between the 50" & 55" at the time I got my tv.
BluRay looks way cool, much better then 1080i OTA. 360 looks great, no troubles gaming. STD tv looks fair to good, dvd's look great on it.
Electronics is a hobby of mine and I really researched this before I spent the big bucks. I spent about 18 months on it. And it's the best money I ever spent. This flat screen is a WOW! on everything you watch on it. I have COX cable HD. The TV is constantly upconverting to 1080P so even the "dreary" non-HD channels look very good. I have had the TV Since July and just recently purchased a Panasonic Blu-ray DVD player. Two of the 5 movies that came with it are the first two "Pirates of the Carribean" DVDs. They were good in regular DVD but they are fantastic in Blu-ray. I've also seen "Dinosaur" and "Surf's Up" in this format. "Dinosaur" is extraordinary in it's 3-dimensional quality. I guess you can tell that I love this set-up.
I had the TV professionally installed on the wall on a tilt bracket. It only tilts up and down to make it easier to reach the conections on the back of the TV. I would recommend professional installation to anyone who buys this type of TV.
I have all my components go through a Yamaha RX-V2700 AV Receiver and then to the TV. This really simplifies the hook-ups and there are only 2 cords going up the wall to the TV which are hidden by the center speaker. Oh yeah, I have a complete home theater arrangement with 7.1 surrond sound. Blu-ray really takes advantage of this set-up. The TV does have very good speakers of it's own but I rarely use them. Have fun with the HD of your choice. patsyann
that's because I just bought one.
Took delivery on a new Sony KDS-55A3000 one week ago. Love it but still waiting for my HD sat to be installed, (tomorrow).
I wanted 1080p because I watch movies and expect to get a BluRay or HD-DVD as soon as I feel comfortable betting which format will survive.
This was a huge step forward from our 13 year old 50 inch square Hitachi.

I've had a Sony SXRD KDS60A2000 tv since last December and I just love the sharpness and colors. Now Directv has added more HD programing so it's even better. Although I don't own an HD DVD or a Blueray at this time, I have an Oppo Digital dvd player and with it's up-conversion most dvd movies look real good. Those of you without an HD TV it's time to take the plunge, because the prices and quality are great.
.. for three major reasons:
1) Cable and Over-the-Air HD transmission in 1080P are not likely for a long time (if ever).
2) The Blue-Ray vs HD DVD battle will probably rage for quite awhile, so my old eyes will be fine with standard and up-converted DVD (heck, the pre-recorded disks are cheaper, too).
3) My DLP HDTV automatically switches between 720P and 1080i, depending on the broadcast (or can be "locked" into one or the other manually). Many folks say DLP is on the way out, but it works fine for me. Some day, I may have a room where I could benefit from a wall-hung flat screen, and then I'll consider the 1080P.
First I own a DLP 1080i for a few years now. What holds me back from getting a 1080P plasma or LCD is quality. I have not seen a picture as good as my Samsung DLP unless you pay a very high price. I will wait to the Plasma and LCD flat panels get as good at a cheeper price.
many reasons
1. i hate widescreen displays
2. to me the hdtv's are overrated, price vs quality improvement
3. I have a perfectly working standard tv. (witch i feel has a great picture)
4. the tv is only part of the cost, theres also alot of overpriced cables and other hardware you have to buy. i.e. hddvd or blueray. (no plan to buy either one of those either)
I hate Wide-Screen TVs...!! It would be nice to buy a square HDTV for 'squares' like me!
Not impressed enough with the picture quality versus the price.
Don't care enough about today's programming to invest that kind of money in a TV.
My old TV has a decent picture and is in good shape. I will change it when forced by its demise or when the current signal no longer works on it.
Basically, current TV programming is just not worth it to me.
