Connecticut is a "no handheld cell phones" state. I use the ear piece when driving so I will not get a ticket. Being wireless, it does not restrict my movements while driving.
This technology is great. For me, any wireless technology that works as good as or better that it's wired counterpart is worth the switch. Remember when remote controls were attached to the TV? By show of hands, how many of you still think those were better than what we use now? What about our wireless home networks?
We are living in an ever changing technological world, and Bluetooth is that changing technology for headsets.
What about those folks we think are going crazy talking to themselves? Well actually that sentiment first started when the wired headsets were introduced. Now it's such a common sight, just like everything else throughout our every changing environment (good or bad) we have now grown accustomed to it.
But here is what really sold the technology for me. The Motorola MOTOROKR S9 Bluetooth stereo headphones. Now I have the added value of using my headset for calls as well as listening to music. I can also pair (connect) my Bluetooth headphones with any other Bluetooth capable device, or to my laptop, stereo and ipod with the use of a Bluetooth Stereo adapter. Now how cool is that???!!!!
Well, I live in NJ and do business in NY....2 states that 'outlaw' cell phone use in the car by hand. That being said, I have been using Blue Tooth for 3 1/2 years and find it great, no more wired headsets that I previously used. I could care less what others think then I use it, instead, I don't know why people still hold a cell phone to their head! I personally think that's a long term HEALTH HAZARD!
I chose "Undecided" for the poll, but really I wanted to choose yes *and* no, because I have a lot of potential uses for bluetooth, but don't own a single bluetooth device.
my wife has a bluetooth phone for syncing to her computer's address book, but my computer is older and so are my PDA and cell. I thought about buying a USB bluetooth adaptor, but once I upgrade my computer it would be extraneous...
I would be interested to see results of a combined poll that looks at what percentage of people have bluetooth devices (more than one device, since one by itself is kind of pointless) and then ask if people consider bluetooth important.
Bluetooth is ok in your car or possibly in your office ALONE! But get over the arrogance of trying to think you are so important that you have to have some orifice hanging out of your ear.....life really is not that complicated and the only thing you accomplish is offending people around you or giving the impression or being way more important and in demand than you probably are!

My most recent car included bluetooth in it's package and since it was time to upgrade a failing phone I jumped at the chance to get a cell with the feature included. The technology is very handy. Allowing me to make calls (nearly) handsfree and recieve calls without doing anything but talk. I only wish the BT package incuded a voice dialing feature.
Anyone with a cell that's used in a car should have this, for safty, at least. The Bt modules are not that expensive ($150 to 300) and can be installed in an hour or so by competent stereo tech's.
I only hope the next gen is more secure.
As a telecommunications worker who cannot afford to have wires dangling from my head when I am leaning into a 900 pair cable splice, bluetooth was a lifesaver. Until finding my Jawbone headset and getting the upgrade from Sprint for my Treo 700 WX I was not a happy camper. The Treo is NOTORIOUS for dropping the bluetooth signal often. Every test I read said the only one that didnt drop was Palms headset which I refused to be bullied into buying. Then lo-and behold, a week ago I was sent an email with a new sofware upgrade for the Treo and BAM!!! Life is good. The upgrade totally makes this phone/headset combo a dream come true. It finds the headset in less than 2 seconds every time. Even with the phone powered down when a call comes in it goes to the headset immediately upon awaking. I LOVE IT NOW! Bluetooth all the way. I worked a 13 hour shift yesterday on a cable failure and instead of using my official telephone man dial set (the bright yellow one) I had the guys call me on my cell phone and the Jawboone/Treo combo worked aweseome, I didnt have a cricked neck from leaning my head into the bulky dialset, I was just talking natural with my co-workers.
blue tooth is great I can hear the people who I talk to
far much better then talking in to the hand set .
and it took me awhile to get over thinking others who would see me thought I might of been let out of the mental home to early or I was having and aurgement with my self but when you consider I'm almost 55 years old now
(still sexy) to the Ladies of coarse .
I'm suppose to look dorky and the 15 1/2 year old is starting to walk with me in the mall and thinking his dad is pretty cool best $119.00 dollars I've ever spent plus car charger cord , you'll have to charge your phone more just write notes like I do to remember
to look at your phone battery meter, or you'll be sucking wind or you'll miss good phone calls from your no it friend sayin he locked up his computer and you'll miss the opertunity to bust his balls
well, ya know, i dont really enjoy looking like lutennant ohurra...im not on the bridge of the enterprise....but the technology is indeed important in regards to all the other applications it fulfills...the wireless mouse and keyboard, and the blackburry...a necessity to the business world. i dont se too many people wearing the headsets on metro north into the city....they really do look dorky, and my wired one is just fine for me, but a bluetooth mouse is great. i ride into manhattan every day and i have my laptop on my knees and my trusty mouse next to me on my leg because i never really cottenned to that mousepad on my laptop. important? yes, but its not the be all end all...its convienent.
Yes, I'm a dork and a geek, soon we will rule the world. I limit the dork factor of the headset with black electrical tape over the blue flashing light (or dork target by Motodork). The blue light can be turned off, but then you can't hear the ring in your ear. I had a Plantronics previously, a little less dorky because its bulk fit behind the ear. I like them because I drive a lot and it is a big saftey factor. Now I have a free hand to work my computer and blackberry.
Right now I have no use or way to use it to my advantage. Being disabled with limited use of my arms and hands I can see it helping out in the future with things like phone usage as an example is the hands free use of a phone but for now the technology is still very young and as it matures I'm sure it will become more reliable. In fact just yesterday my dad wanted to know if there was a way he could hear his cell phone ring when he's working at the farm around grain dryers and other very noisy equipment, add to that a loss of hearing to start with. My nurse uses Bluetooth on her phone so she can take her calls and continue working. The small ear piece she uses would be useful for him but he'd have to get used to it and at his age change is not so easy when it comes to technology.
One non-dorky application is a Bluetooth headset mounted in a motorcycle helmet to receive verbal instructions from a Garmin motorcycle ready, waterproof GPS unit. Using this headset is much safer than reading GPS instructions at 70 mph. Kayikejim.
This was a great idea and it makes thing so much easier. I find it allot safer and easier. I used to have to pull over to the side of the road and have a conversation or stop and get directions on my phone etc..now it is just right they ready to use.
I get a chuckle out of women in store babbling and giggling as they do their shopping. While it may be great technology for those that need a hands free cell in their cars (New York - yeah, sure they're used. Why did I have 2 very close calls within a half mile a couple of days ago)or traveling, I can't think of any reason why I personally need that gizmo hanging out of my ear.
