"No Audio Output Device Installed"

by remarquee - 8/10/07 7:30 PM In reply to: Audio by DellCA

I noticed that you responded to another user having the problem which I am experiencing after reinstalling VISTA Business: "No Audio Output Device Installed"; however, the link you posted was for XP. Do you know of one for VISTA.

Which Cards?

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 10/7/07 10:20 PM In reply to: Network drivers problem by telltouday

Hopefully, you wrote down the specific name of ALL of the hardware listed in Vista's "Device Manager". You can then look up the XP compatible drivers associated with that hardware. If you don't have specifics as to which devices are installed, it's tough to find specific drivers.

Hope this helps and let us know more.

*Also Missing Sound Driver-

by fairydustbunny - 6/6/07 12:56 PM In reply to: DELL Inspiron- NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVICE IS INSTALLED by to _vista_or_not_to_vista

I'm having the same problem, but with a Lenovo(IBM) Desktop(7387-A11).Vista came pre-installed when I purchased it on 2/29/07. The sound worked fine until about a week ago. Yesterday I spent over an hour on the phone with their tech. support, with no final resolution before having to disconnect. Was sent to the IBM web site ,where I would be able to redownload the suddenly missing driver, but could not get it to work. Just get an error message
"SoundMax _InstallShieldWizard
The Windows Audio Service must be running
but could not be started."

Didn't get a chance to call back yet,but he had told me that if it wasn't successful, that I should just run RESCUE & RECOVER,which would take me back to the original factory installed state. I do have my backup disc with my files, but I think he mentioned something about needing to set up a connection and install other things also at that time, and I;m not quite sure what to do !

I do have a ?modem/router? for my DSL connection from my server,(others mentioned disconnecting)but don't think that that option is available to me!

Any input is appreciated!

Inspiron 6000

by Casualmadness - 8/2/07 11:44 AM In reply to: *Also Missing Sound Driver- by fairydustbunny

Ok so I got a super deal on an old Inspiron 6000. CO-worker sold it to me for $200! And it has Vista Premium on it. So when I took it home, I re-installed Vista on it because he still had his username and all on it. Everything re-installed and I got it up and running (my first vista machine btw). But I got the ominous message: "no audio output device installed." I tried pretty much everything that everyone has suggested here but I still can't get sound out of this thing. Common sense tells me that there is a driver that is required that isn't present in vista. And that makes sense since the vista is an upgrade. But for the life of me I can't get this thing going. I'm not known for my patience so I've seriously contemplated smashing this thing. Anyone? Help?

Dell Vista Microphone

by Kevin_Robinson - 8/8/07 4:56 AM In reply to: Inspiron 6000 by Casualmadness

I have had trouble with my microphone suddenly stopped working and then became unpredictable and temperamental.
Tried all the driver fixes. Uninstall Sigma reinstall etc. Sometimes worked sometimes not. No knowing.
Fixed: note that the microphone socket is very slightly recessed in cabinet of Dell Inspiron 1501. My microphone plug was too deeply shrouded in plastic sleeve. Judiciously removed small sliver from soft plastic sleeve on the Microphone plug with sharp knife. Presto all fixed now!

Sound driver

by remarquee - 10/10/07 6:21 AM In reply to: *Also Missing Sound Driver- by fairydustbunny

Eureka!

I have discovered the solution to the Sigmatel sound program.

The current driver must be removed/deleted! Then, by downloading
The driver from Dell’s registry updates and sources and reinstalling.
I was able to see the sound icon change to active while it was
Reinstalling.

Perhaps this will be helpful for others also.

Solved the Problem

by ankittayal - 11/5/07 12:09 AM In reply to: Sound driver by remarquee

Well the simplest solution that worked for me(OS_VISTA) was to go to the devise manager and click on the audio driver that was installed and click upgrade. it gives the options of 1. high definition audio
2.sigmatel sudio
select hi def audio and click next to install works like a charm...

Solution

by manojgupta3103 - 12/13/07 8:26 PM In reply to: DELL Inspiron- NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVICE IS INSTALLED by to _vista_or_not_to_vista

I had this problem after i updraded to Vista ultimate from home edition.
Follow below steps for resoultion:

1) Gp to control panel--> Device Manager--> Sound video and game controllers.
2) Right click on "High definition ..." and select uninstall, also check the box.
3) Restart/Put the system in sleep mode
4) Start the system and it will reinstall the driver.
5) Your audio system should work now....

Best of luck
Manoj.

So I have been dealing with this issue for months since I installed Vista Home Premium on my Dell Computer and just now came across this website that saved my sanity!

http://neosmart.net/blog/2006/vista-sound-drivers/

It gives you a complete list of what drivers are compatible with what computers and the links to there websites. I sware I was about to throw my computer across the room. Hopefully it works for you too!!

P.S. Vista Sucks!!

Re-install audio driver

by Doh_1 - 1/10/09 12:44 AM In reply to: DELL Inspiron- NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVICE IS INSTALLED by to _vista_or_not_to_vista

Go to the Dell website and use your account with your Dell code (I forget what the code is called) set for the Inspiron as your default system. Then go to driver downloads and find the audio/sound driver for your model Inspiron. Go through the re-installation according to their directions, and you should be good to go.
