Which Verizon phone is closest to iPhone?

by bananamom - 10/7/07 9:49 PM

We are just now diving into cell phones that move beyond the simple call function.

My hubby wants a phone where he can access the Internet via Internet Explorer-style to get his Yahoo email, plus his work email through Outlook web, and his Fantasy Football site. Plus, he loves the iPhone feature of looking up addresses and navigation and such. He doesn't care about VCast because he has his 60G iPod (and practically full too, the geek).

But he doesn't want to pay $400 for an iPhone and $100 for monthly AT&T service if we can have the same features cheaper through Verizon. We're with Verizon now, and as of tomorrow he's up for the New-Every-Two marketing ploy.

Should we ditch Verizon and just get the iPhone? Is there a comparable Verizon phone? In Verizon's pick-a-phone attributes, I see stuff labeled VZEmail, Mobile 2.0, Windows Mobile OS and Broadband access, but what is it we need? Which is the one that just let's you click on Internet Explorer and call up your Yahoo page?

Sorry so technologically dinosaurish in SoFla ....

you might wanna check into the treo 700. i believe it has all the things hes looking for minus the vcast. you can also try the moto Q, and Q9m. I used the have the original Q and it displays full webpages but it isnt as easy to use as the iphones safari. u have the either use the directional pad or the scroll wheel to get to the link you want. or you can wait until the end of november and get the LG vx10000, it has a touch screen interface like the iphone plus it flips open with a full qwerty keyboard. just a few ideas for ya, hope this helps.

Verizon equivalent to iPhone

by hengineer - 10/8/07 1:56 AM In reply to: verizon by ciltzsch

iPhones are overrated, as PDA cellphones have been around for some time now, with even more functionality and speeds than iPhone has.

As was mentioned before, the Treo 700 is a good call, however the 700p with Palm OS is probably closest. I personally own a 700wx, with Windows Mobile, and do enjoy it. The price tag on it, however, is about as much as an iPhone, but it DOES give you much more. It is a full PDA-phone, and I guess should be compared more to PDAs than to phones. Full touch-screen with stylus, and it also includes a small qwerty keyboard at the bottom of the phone (buttons are small and a bit hard to use for someone who is all thumbs). It does, however connect 3G style, on Verizon's broadband EVDO network (in available metropolitan areas, its original 2.5G 1x style network, like the iPhone can only connect on).

There are other phones out there, just try visiting a store and ask a salesperson to use a demonstration product (or read the full description and capabilities and compare to iPhone).

verizon still on top

by bmxfreak995 - 10/8/07 2:59 PM In reply to: Which Verizon phone is closest to iPhone? by bananamom

there are some good phones that verizon offers that are comparable if not better then the iphone. i my self just bought the new Motorola q9m and love it. and with the money i saved i can upgrade my ipod video and get the new touch. the other phone i would say to look out for in the lg voyager. it is similar to the env (which i had and loved) but it has a full touch screen that when flipped reviles a full qwerty keyboard. that comes out round the end of November. just something to keep in mind. but i would recomend those two phones. hope that helped.

Iphone cmparison

Keep in mind that the I-phone where it is cool and all it doesn't work on the CDMA technology so the browser is extremely slow. Wait for the holidays when Verizon launches the new LG-10000 (Voyager) phone. It has the the full HTML browser so your hubby can surf the internet like his computer (very different and allows for more content than a Treo, Blackberry, or the motorola Q) Also, this phone does email stuff and will have the Live TV function as well so if your hubby misses a game, he may be able to watch it live on his phone. So wait for it to come out!!!

there are a number of hot discussions about the LG VOYAGER, vx10000. go to howardforums.com and just search for this phone. i ditto the previous post about this phone.

it's got a touch sensitive screen, full html web browser to check email and whatnot, and a full qwerty keyboard.

it also looks cool.

for a pic of it, and just search around for more info on google.

i think this will be what your husband's looking for, it's what i want to get!

I love you people. Thank you for all the replies. My husband may not be able to hold out for this LG 10000, and is looking closely at the other options you provided.

Me, on the other hand, I can wait for this phone. And I will! Thanks ....

heya, the vx10000 is probably the best idea in your situation. if you both keep verizon, remind your hubby that all his i-tunes he's paid for aren't a total loss. verizon has a kit you can buy to put almost any song format onto your verizon phone. it's called a music essentials kit...basiclly it's a usb cable that connects to the phone and pc, software, and a stereo headset. he can use that to put all his songs on to the vx10000 once released. not only that there's minimal chance of losing important info/photos/numbers/songs because the 10000 will take micro sd cards - the same memory card jobbers used in digital cameras. so he can save important info or just use different sd cards for different playlists. not only that, if his i-phone's battery poops out or worse you'll lose all your photos unless he has a good habit of loading the to pix place or txting them to him email. anyway, i'm rambling... stick with verizon if possible. good luck!
