Your top features for the iCar?

by wcunning CNET staff - 10/3/07 5:15 PM

In my recent column, iCar future features, I speculated how an iCar might work. What kind features would you expect an iCar to have?

iCar. iCaramba.

The iCar won't crash.
It will just breakdown like all other cars do.
Like all Macs, the iCar won't warn you it's dying, it will just stop in the middle of traffic during rush hour.

Like the iPod, the iCar will be part of a monopoly that nobody questions or notices. You won't have to choose what gas station to go to. Apple will decide that. That will be nice when gas prices skyrocket and you can't shop around.

Also like the iPod, you won't be able to get to any of the iCar's working parts so you will have to take car in to the dealer for everything.

Since Apple will probably be involved in the service, you will have to convince them the car actually disabled. There nothing like fighting with snotty tech support/service.

Worst of all, the iCar will be both a Mexican-built and Chinese-built abomination.

I-Car IICX

I can see it now, out in the parking lot, snow whirling around and i am out there helping my 'with-it' neighbor get the thing rolling: Lift the hood, rap the hard disk a few times, and it will come back to life.

With Ferdinand Piëch back in the picture

by make_or_break - 10/5/07 12:47 AM In reply to: Your top features for the iCar? by wcunning CNET staff

I expect it to be an iMess. The Porsche family may want to consolidate their control over Volkswagen, but like any of ill-conceived Volkswagen forays of the past when Herr Piëch was previously commanding this leaky boat, the iCar will be iExpensive, iUnreliable, iFailure and iMoneypit all at the same time. With Piëch back on the VW board, expect the flow of red ink to continue to flow unabated, and the flow of mediocre products to be as strong as ever.

If the Porsche clan was ever looking to label someone as the poster child for being the black sheep of their family...they need not look no farther than VW's own board of directors. For this Apple threw their hat into?

Another success in the making

by guerson1707 - 10/5/07 8:19 AM In reply to: Your top features for the iCar? by wcunning CNET staff

It’s funny when u read all the blogs hitting up online when it comes to anything Apple. This icar will be another success and phenomenon of apple. Just like when rumors of an iphone was coming out so many people were skeptical of what can it include and how it will look and then Iphone becomes the most hyped release from anything before. Unfortunate it’s true, we don’t notice but we are being dragged inside apple’s monopoly game. Everything from icomputers to iphones, ipods, isneakers, but apple is doing it smart (only with the money do they mess up...lol). It’s a reason why everything we own bit by bit is turning to an apple product. They actually make good things so it would surprise me that this turns into something phenomenal. At first everyone will question it, but then you’ll see people making lines at your local Volkswagen ordering one. It probably has things that you already have but everything will be super combined into one unit. Probably the car will have wifi buit in with some ports in the back for individual listening of an ipod…who knows what it will have but if this comes to production apple will shock, impress, and make us want it so badly…to point that will actually make us want a Volkswagen…lol

iDont know why i'M even typing here. Whether iHate Apple or not doesn't even matter anymore. iT's all just so lame. Can't everyone see that something even as simple as their naming convention has played itself out too far.

I could give 2 sh*ts about an iPod in my car whether iDrive my Honda or whatever.

Last time iChecked all iCared about was a car that met my needs and kept my family safe. Not about being another trandy iSnob...

imagine, just a few are sufficient to build your house with that size iBricks. Great idea. It would also do a lot of good to the environment.

iEverything!

by m.afshari - 10/6/07 3:06 AM In reply to: Your top features for the iCar? by wcunning CNET staff

I think Apple should dominate the world with its "i" phenomena!! And Steve Jobs is the right guy to lead us to that!!

I would be one of the proud citizens of this world to own an iPhone, iPod, iCar, iJob, iHome, iLife, iWife even!!!

So I think Apple should and must take ownership of the "i" pehnomena!

Hail to the 'i'!!!

Regards,
Mohammad

iCar "features"

by sinpolines - 10/6/07 7:35 AM In reply to: Your top features for the iCar? by wcunning CNET staff

Given that it would be from Apple, I would like to see the following features:

- iCar owners should be able to change their own car batteries. Apple should not force us to send the car to them to change the battery.

- we should be able to put any gas from anywhere, not just from the the Apple ITunes store

- I want to be abble to installed any unauthorized add-ons to the iCar, like tires from anyone, not just Apple tires, car floor mats from anyone, a city sticker, anything

- we should be able to use stereo bluetooth, Flash, Java and any other useful technology in the iCar, not just technology made by Apple

- if Apple cuts down the price of the iCar by 33% after the first two months because sales are twinding down and they will never sell 10 million iCars in the first year as they predicted, I really would like Apple to refund me the 33% it overcharged me in cash plus taxes and not some store vouchers to give them back the money

- Please please Apple design the iCar so that it can interoperate with the rest of the car industry. Don't maek it another Apple island.

Other than that, I thinbk the iCar can be a hit.

People have been musing about the iCar since the turn of the millennium. I was so impressed by this image of what one should look like I built this Dhtml composition around it.

The image was created by Chris Riley.

iRoads, IFuel, iDrive, iDontCare

by albizzia - 10/6/07 3:11 PM In reply to: Your top features for the iCar? by wcunning CNET staff

It will be available in tasteful white and brushed aluminum... What, you want color? Well, alright, but only tasteful pastels selected by the Great Job himself.

It will, of course run only on AppleJuice, available at select retailers... Don't confuse the exclusive AppleFuel with apple juice, Treetop won't work.

There will, of course, be a lawsuit by BMW over their iDrive, which will be settled, and Apple won't change a thing.

It will be driven on special iRoads that will go to all the stylish places Apple thinks is appropriate. You can download a free program allowing driving on regular roads, but you must install the optional Apple steering wheel and pedal set to run it.

The Apple iChild safety seat will be so soo elegant and easy to install, but will require previous installation of the optional Apple BACHELOR (Baby And CHild Easy Latch Operating Revision)

No Windows, instead it will have "Peril Sensitive Viewing Ports" which darken automatically when anything comes by that Apple doesn't want you to see. After lawsuits by Douglas Adams, they will be renamed "Pleasant View Ports", and owners will love showing off their iPVP ports.
