I bought this program after reading the reviews on C-Net. But I fear that I may Have made a mistake. After searching, I found that this company has a very bad rep. Everything that I yse, ie; spybot S&D, Alerts on this software as spyware/malwaree. The company ignores my requests for explanation as to why many others think they are malware, Does anyone have any experience with this program?

Hi vince,
As per http://www.malwarebytes.org/database.php?id=339 SpywareDetector is a rogue product.
There is also Spyware Detector in the http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#swdetect_note which was de-listed but both is the same program: SpywareDetector by SpywareDetector.com and Spyware Detector by SpywareDetector.net
I think you should immediately remove the said program and demand refund if you do not want to keep it.

Is MaxSecure Software the same company that you are talking about? Or is the name the only thing that is the same? I have had this program since the 19th of August so I think My only option is to delete the program and eat the loss. Do you think that is my best option?
At their website, it says:
"SpywareDetector Max Secure Spyware Detector is a complete solution for individuals, professionals and home users. The software is specially designed to scan, detect, delete and recover spywares with an option of quick and full scan."
You can try to run the freeware RogueRemover from http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php and let it scan the system to see if it's going to flag your program as rogue. If so, let it remove it or you can use the uninstaller of SpywareDetector to remove it then scan again using Spybot S&D, Ad-aware and RogueRemover for remnants.
I will personally avoid a program that is flagged by trustworthy anti-spyware.
I really wish I had found this review site before I installed and paid for this product!
I downloaded and paid for the product by direct banking, after nearly a week and not receiving my code I got in touch with them via "live chat" on their website. A few days later I was told that they hadn't received my payment, although the money definately left my bank account. After a few emails, the payment suddenly appeared and I was given a code.
After 3 days of having the product and doing some homework on the company and reading reviews (which I should have done first) I realised I had made a mistake on chosing this product. I uninstalled it and demanded a refund from the company that same day, this was nearly 3 weeks ago.
I have several "live chats" with the company telling me this was going to be sorted out in 2 working days. I even received emails confirming what I had been told. A week later I received an email from the company to their billing department stating "that the period for a refund on this product has expired"...I am still within my 30 day money back, no questions asked guarantee!! At this stage I started to get very irritated (and that's putting it mildly)
The last email I had from them was to ask for my banking details so they could refund themoney to me...I had already sent them all the details they required in a previous email demanding the refund for the 4th time.
I am at a loss as to what I can do to get my money back. Is there anyone I can contact that can take this matter further?
I had problems with this company
Today (13-08-08) , almost all of the problems have been solved . It was suggested I use Rogue Remover (free version) to make sure every part of Spyware Detector had been removed. It found a file in the program files and I removed it .Previously I had carried out a search using the Windows Search function and thought I had removed everything .
Anyway on Saturday I asked for my money back and made it clear I did not want to install their software again.
The technical department just carried on giving advice on re-running their software and customer support wanted me to follow the technical advice and wait another week .
Today I contacted my credit card company (Barclays) who said if I received no refund they could "raise a dispute" against the company and they will investigate .
Which is what I will do tommorrow.

See my thread,
I made an online complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority concerning the 30 Day money back guarantee (no questions asked) given by maxpcsecure .
This was a quick and simple process and yesterday I received 2 e-mails from maxpcsecure and Plimus sales confirming I have been refunded although it may take up to 5 days before it appears on my credit card.
Thanks for the info about the Advertising Standards Authority...as soon as I mentioned in an email that I would be contacting Advertising standards...I was given my refund in less than three days. I wasn't paid back the full amount, they got £2.85 out of me, but at least I got most of my money.
Definately makes you wonder about these people.
I have been using Max Secure Spyware for some time and have over a period noticed that it comes up with almost identical reports of threats every time I run a scan ... even when I ahve run a scan only minutes before and quarantined the files detected ... I get a poor response from them even it I manage to export the report ... most times I can't even send that off.
Webroot Spy Sweeper is one of the trustworthy antispyware product:

Thank you all for your great advice. I hope I will be able to contibute to this forum in the future.
I have been using Max Secure's Spyware Detector for almost a year. To begin with, I was impressed with the frequency of updates to both the database set and to the scan engines. My take was that these guys were trying hard with what I consider to be a difficult job. To be more critical, I never did think much of their resident shield, which did not appear to stop anything from getting on my disk (I once got 66 separate infections by Downloader.Zlob in a single one-hour session on the net; or so SD reported).
Lately, however, I have started to get worried about this program. I've been getting a lot of false positives, which I reported. Most seem to have been resolved (?). About 4 days ago, I rescanned to find that PC Tools Antivirus was the only FP still reported. I did not quarantine it. I ran another scan a few hours later (with the same updates) to find that PCTAV was no longer reported. That kind of inconsistency worries me a lot more than a FP. And now, with todays updates, SD has started killing the process nvcpldaemon (a legitimate part of the nVidia Control Panel) on every restart.
Another thing that makes me nervous about SD is rootkits. Maybe 12-18 rootkits have been identified by SD in the last year. More than half involved files that were part of one or more system restore points. If SD is deleting restore point files, what will happen when I need to do a system restore ? For all I know, yesterdays restore point might now be incomplete. Is this valid behaviour for an antispyware program ?
So, I started checking around. A few forums reported that SD has been flagged as malware by SpyBot, but these reports were about two years old, and the latest entries in the threads indicated that Max Secure had cleaned up their act, and SpyBot had taken SD off their blacklist.
So here is the breaking news: I downloaded SpyBot today, updated it, and scanned my system. It IS reporting SD as malware (associated with Schmitfraud, whatever that is. Does anyone know ?)
This is the last straw for me. Think I'll switch to Webroot Spy Sweeper
