Formatting sd cards

by aygarza - 10/2/07 11:41 PM

my friend sent me his sd card with tons of pictures on it.. i tried to view them and it worked at first but when I tried it a second time, it's asking me to format the sd card. Will this delete the pictures that are on there? What can I do?

Caution !

If you format the card, all the pictures will be removed or deleted.

If you viewed the pictures via a card reader and computer the first time, reboot the computer and use a different card reader. Try copying the contents of the card to the computer HD. Inform you friend whether there are copies. There are free softwares which can recover the photos, but whatever you do, do not format !

SD Card

Do not format the card.

You did not say what method you were using to view the SD card.

It sounds like you may have been trying to view it by inserting the SD card into your camera.
And that is not a good idea at all.

If you try to read it with a card reader, it should work.

.................

Take the card to your local photo processing place and ask them to copy the photos from the card to a CD.

WalMart will do that for $2.48 per CD.
WalGreen Drugs has a machine that you can use and the fee is $2.98 per CD.
Other places will likely offer the same service.

sd card reader

Actually I disagree. I have a 2 G SD card that want's to reformat with my Lacie card reader...but works fine if I use the camera. My PCI slot reader in my Macbook reads it just fine also. The 512's all work fine in either system. Just one of those things...I won't reformat it though...doubt it will work anyway, then I lose my Number system coordination.

GEtting data back

by cqjbcq - 10/5/07 8:41 PM In reply to: sd card reader by bandaid69

Really if you have a drive that is telling you to format, you should not listen to it. Memory cards that tell you you need to format the device are not telling you what's best for you to prevent lost data.

If you can not recover the data yourself then get a company like eProvided.com to get it back for you.

But yes reformatting will mean in most cases you will have no data left.
