I have a 1330 and love it. I had a minor case damage and dell just sent me my replacement and I have decided to go back to XP for now. I have 2.0 processor. 160gb (7200rpm) HD. 128mb graphics. 4 gb. ram. and all kinds of other goodies. When I go to install XP I am unable to find the HD to load the OS on?? I did some searching on google and found I am not alone. Everyone else says that they have to use an external USB floppy drive to get a driver installed during the XP installation. I don't have a floppy. I was wondering if anyone could post a step by step guide on how to do it another way. I have heard of a flash drive way to do it, but I cannot figure out how. I haven't even been able to get XP installed enough to have to search for the drivers for the rest of the system(sound, video, webcam, ect.) If anyone could help, that would be greatly appreciated!!!! thanks!
I have to use an external USB floppy drive to get a driver installed during the XP installation because XP needs this driver to support the SATA hard disk.
Vista or the Dell restore CDs avoid this because that SATA support is in Vista or the Dell CDs.
Here's a similar drive to what I use -> http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=RF-FDUSB-TM2-R&cat=RDM
That's $8.50. I know some that will say that's far too much to solve this problem.

Hi, use the nlite freeware. get a copy of xp cd and follow the instruction of nlite. download the driver from dell website extract it. add the driver through the nlite software. use Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M). create the iso and burn it on a cd/dvd. boot from the new xp cd. It will work fine.
