That is a pretty slick deal. They've always had good deals for the student editions, but I didn't know it was that low.

Office 2007 is very nice. I LOVE the new interface which is far more attractive, intuitive and efficient than the old toolbar-style interface.

Read the fine print

The Microsoft deal sounds good, but if you navigate down to the agreement terms, this part worries a bit:

"Also, you must be able to provide proof of enrollment status (ie, student card) upon request by Microsoft. If you are unable to provide proof of enrollment, you will be required to pay the full retail price of Office Ultimate 2007 (approximate ERP $679USD)."

Let say you are in school right now, but 6 months from now you are no longer in school. Can Microsoft suddenly demand $679 because you can't produce an valid student card? They don't state that they will request the ID when you purchase, just "upon request" which could mean at any time.

Enrollment Proof

The proof of your enrollment is they send the e-mail and everything through your university address. My guess is that it goes through some sort of channel or database to tell if the address is that of student/staff/faculty/etc.

I think it would be a gross overuse of microsoft's resources if they went and sought out every student to do this...it's kind of how facebook was back in the day, you don't get it unless you have a valid college account.

Yeah... This is an amazing deal.

Also, even if you're a Microsoft hater, you gotta love this new version of Office. It has just a short learning curve and lots of productivity enhancements.
